New Years Word #3 :: Capture

NikonD90_CamilleStyles

*This is the third in a 3-part series on my defining “words” for 2012. Here’s the first and second ones. I wrote this on New Year’s Eve at a spa resort in Arizona, surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountain scenery I’ve ever laid eyes on. Have you guys been making New Year’s words or resolutions? I’d love to hear about it!

My final New Year’s word is definitely the most tangible and practical of the bunch, since it’s about refining a skill that I’ve been wanting to improve on for a while. I’ve always loved looking at beautiful photographs, but it wasn’t until I bought my Nikon D90 last year that I discovered I really wanted to start making them, too. With just a little practice, my photos went from this to this…and in 2012, I’ve decided it’s time to majorly up my game. I kicked the year off in Arizona with a one-on-one photography class in the desert, and I’m planning to spend some time shadowing my photog friends and hopefully soaking up their wisdom. So readers…this is one New Year’s word where y’all will get to witness my improvement as I show you the projects I’m working on over the next year. And for all you experts out there…feel free to share any advice and critiques along the way!

I concur with “capture” as one of my words. I just started taking pictures and right now…mine look like your first “this.” Can’t wait until mine are like your second “this.” :) Love your blog and you are my “must meet” list at the ALT design summit. :) Caryl

I’m by all means no expert but love taking photos too! My only advice is practice, practice and practice and a “real” food photographer once told me to move around the subject. Good Luck and I’m sure you’ll be a pro in no time.

I just love your blog. I wanted to take a second and actually sat “hi” and tell you. Will you be at ALT? It’s my January goal to add new blogs and blog friends to routine. You are such a have. Thanks for all of the gorgeous inspiration, fun, and pictures.

Great idea! I can’t wait to see how you improve! Perhaps doing a post at the end of the year with some key photos you’ve taken throughout 2012, so we can see the improvement?
