One of the most fun things about Phoebe getting a little older (she turns 4 in August!!) is that she appreciates our mama-daughter dates a lot more than she used to. When I announce we’re going somewhere special, it’s not uncommon for her to whisper conspiratorially, “Girls only, right?” Life has been crazy lately with work and social commitments and keeping up with her little bro who is an extremely busy almost-1-year-old, so I have to be really intentional about carving out the occasional date for just the two of us.

Recently we headed to Moojo, the cutest ice cream sandwich spot in Austin, to sample their gourmet flavors sandwiched between fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies. More on Moojo below, but first, can we talk about our dresses for a second? Because they’re both secondhand. I know, mind is officially blown.

I have to be honest: I wasn’t super interested in shopping on consignment until I had kids who seemed to grow out of all their clothes in a week, as kids tend to do. The idea of scoring designer duds for them at prices that wouldn’t make me weep if they only got a handful of wear out of them was super appealing. So when thredUP recently approached me about working together, I was excited to try out the site.

thredUP is like a well curated online consignment store, and the first thing that I noticed is how much easier it is to shop (no digging through overstuffed racks of clothing!) You can sort by brands like Madewell, Zara, and Joie, toggle by size and color, and find great steals that are up to 90% off the original retail price. We loved wearing our coordinating stripes on our ice cream date — my casual shirtdress is Halston Heritage, and Phoebe’s bow-topped number is from Halabaloo (I saved 20% on each of them and they looked brand new.) thredUP is offering you guys an amazing discount on your first order — just scroll to the bottom of the post for details.

Now back to those sweets… You know that moment when warm cookies start to melt the ice cream? The cofounders (Matt and Matt) opened Moojo in 2014 out of their passion to spread that kind of joy. Thanks to a commitment to natural and sustainable foods, they work with family-owned McConnell’s Fine Ice Cream, who have made their ice cream from scratch, in small batches, with grass-grazed milk & cream pasteurized from raw at their own creamery for the last 70 years.

And those cookies are made small-batch, using the finest wholesome ingredients with no added preservatives, and baked fresh every single day. At the counter, you can choose your own creation from twelve amazing types of cookies, sixteen flavors of ice cream and a wide range of house-made toppings. There are even vegan and gluten-free options so everyone can enjoy.

Phoebe and I had the best time indulging, being silly and getting ice cream all over our faces. I have to say that eating ice cream and hanging in the swings definitely made me feel like a kid again — no phones, no Instagram, just having fun together which is what all good dates should be about, after all.

All you mamas (or aunts, or godmothers) out there: I’d love to hear what outings you love to go on with your favorite littles! I’m definitely thinking about different dates for us to do all summer long, so spill your best ideas.
