Music Festival Style Guide | Camille Styles

Jennifer here, already accused of taking this post way too seriously! But hey — after 12+ years of living in Austin and countless wristbands tucked in my scrapbook, I’ve learned a thing or two about surviving music festivals. And I’m not about to send you out there in a pair of espadrilles and tight jeans. No, there’s a real art to dressing for concerts. Whether it’s SXSW, Coachella, or Bonnaroo you’re headed to this spring, you’ll want to be prepared for blazing hot sun, knee-deep mud, unexpected dance-offs and (of course) the magical chance of getting backstage. And take it from someone who knows: anything is possible with the right outfit.

1.  Bring your own shade with a fun straw hat. (beach hat by Tula, Carla hat by Steven Alan)
2. Pair a summery top with a long skirt or denim shorts for a bohemian vibe. (corset cami by Tocca, dumas embroidery top by Etoile Isabel Marant)
3. You’ll be almost famous with a pair of these. (classic wayfarers by Ray-Ban, Karen Walker Number One Sunglasses, paloma crystal sunglasses by retrosuperfuture)
4. Listen to your mom for once and don’t forget the sunscreen! (spray sunscreen from Philosophy)
5. Keep both hands free for rockin’ with a cross-body bag. (canteen bag from Whit, legacy leather mini from Coach, grove court floral cora bag from kate spade new york)
6. Layer edgy accessories for a punk-chic look. (both necklaces from Orly Genger by Jaclyn Mayer)
7. And for goodness’ sake, wear comfortable shoes! Flats highly recommended. (metallic leather thongs from Joie, Lacy suede oxfords from Anthropologie,  herringbone sandals from Twelfth St. by Cynthnia Vincent)
8. In case of rain (read: MUD) be sure to come prepared. (silver wellies from Hunter, vintage Levi’s 501 cut offs from Miss Purses, spot tiny umbrella by Cath Kidston)

2. ONE dress by Kite and Butterfly
3. Romper by Morgan Carper
4. Flonnie top by Dolce Vita and dolphin hem shorts by Free People

I’m a big fan of long skirts and dresses for sunny shows — they breathe in the heat, are easy to deal with in the restroom, and double as a blanket when you need a place to sit! That said, it’s sometimes fun to show a little leg with a cute sundress or pair of cut offs, too. And I’m always looking for any excuse to sport a romper. So, loose-fitting and comfortable are really the only hard-and-fast rules — any of the above looks would be great! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some tickets to buy…

Thank you, Barbara! Yes, unfortunately I’ve had to learn some of my lessons the hard way… including sunburns, blisters, and shoes destroyed by mud!

    love love!

Thanks, A! Had fun hearing music with you last night. I guess we can call that “research” for this post.

For sure, Kelly! I’ve got an old classic green pair, but I went on their site and they’re making so many different fun colors now. I may need an upgrade!

  6. I’m so ready for some cut-off denim, fringe, turbans and flowing dresses. Great round-up. Oh, how I wish I was going to Coachella!

    • Jennifer Rose Smith says:

I’ve actually never been. I imagine it with perfect weather. I would love to explore Palm Springs, too… dying to stay at the Parker!

  7. Alice says:

Great looking stuff. Disappointed that so much of it is not affordable or available.

    • Jennifer Rose Smith says:

Thanks for your feedback, Alice. I decided to go with a “fantasy” budget to create a more visually inspiring board. It also looks like one of the Steven Alan shirts sold out at some point in the past day! In the future, I’ll definitely keep your comment in mind when I’m editing my next style board.
