Pretty Simple :: Curl Class

Hair Curling Tutorial | Camille Styles

I know what you’re all thinking: “That’s some fabulous, wavy hair… but mine could never look that good.” Ladies, I kid you not — I sat through this exact curling tutorial with Martha Lynn several months ago, and since then I’ve been curling and twirling with the best of ‘em. All I needed was someone to show me how to properly use a curling iron, and after that practice made perfect! Feeling like you’re ready to give it a shot this weekend? We’ve broken it down for you step-by-step after the jump

  1. Section hair into a vertical section in front of the ear.
  2. Spray section with hair spray. Holding the curling iron clamp with your index finger (we prefer a 1.25-inch Hot Tools curling iron), clamp the section mid-shaft.
  3. Reach your opposite hand over to grab the rubber top of your iron, and immediately curl upward.
  4. Slightly loosen clamp grip on hair, and inch the curling iron downward. Then burl upward again. Repeat down the length of your hair section.
  5. Loosen clamp grip and release. Spray.
  6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 going around the head.
  7. Run fingers through your hair to break up the curls.
  8. Section hair into small sections around the crown.
  9. Wrap hair around the barrel of the curling iron (with clamp down). Repeat around the entire crown. Spray hair all over.

Hey Priscilla! I can’t remember what boutique I got it from, but the brand is Collective Concepts. It’s definitely one of my staple shirts. Hope this helps!

Gonna try this, but I’m a little confused. Do you curl the entire strand or just from the middle of the shaft up??

    Thanks! x

      Hi Ferren, great question!

You start by clamping mid-shaft and curling upward all the way. Then you loosen the grip on the hair and slide the curling iron a few inches down the hair section, and curl upward all the way again. Continue until you’ve reached the end of the hair strand and then release.

      Hope that makes sense!!

I love this look! You make it look so easy! When I purchased a Karmin G3 salon pro Clipless curling iron I had basically no idea how to curl my hair but practice made perfect and I still look out for great tips like these. Gorgeous curls, here I come!

I am a huge fan of all of Kerastase products and love their DOUBLE FORCE CONTROLE ULTIME…it’s a mouthful but it’s worth it! Their hairsprays also have UV protection so you can protect those pretty locks!

Growing up with short hair, I don’t even own a curling iron – in part because the last time I did it, I somehow managed to clamp it the wrong way and ended up with a giant right-angle in my hair (sigh)! If I need a little curl definition, my flat iron also works like a charm, but this made me want to break through the curler barrier and try something new (especially when my hair gets longer)! Thanks for the tips!
