Today’s hair tutorial just might be my favorite one yet — aside from the fact that it’s super easy to do yourself and looks gorgeous, it’s also a total blast from the past. Did anyone else used to rock a topsy tail in the 90’s? This version by Martha Lynn is a little more dressed up and modern and is perfect for second-day hair. I also love that it’s a sleek way to pull long hair back in this increasingly hot and steamy weather, without looking too updo-ish. Keep reading for the step-by-step, and let us know if this is a look you’d rock!

  1. Pull hair in to a mid-height ponytail.
  2. Pull a small section of hair out from ponytail, and wrap around elastic. Secure with bobby pins.
  3. Tie a small, clear elastic around ponytail approximately three inches down from the base of the ponytail to create your first “section”. Then carefully separate this first section in half as pictured to create a hole.
  4. Flip remaining tail over and pass through the hole created in step 3.
  5. Pull tail through and adjust as needed.
  6. Use a clear elastic to tie off a second section of hair, approximately three inches below the first. Repeat steps 3-5.
