Pretty Simple :: This For That

Did you know that the average woman uses 12 cosmetic products a day? Though I’m sure we all know ladies who stand as outliers on either ends of the spectrum, I’d say that’s a pretty impressive number. From pore-tightening serum to anti-aging creams, from moisturizer to detangler to volumizer, there’s a product for practically everything. So when Martha Lynn mentioned that she wanted to share a few secrets that make household products work double duty as cosmetics, our ears perked up. Some of you may have already experimented with these, so we’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments section (I admit I couldn’t live without my baby powder). Click through for tricks of the trade on how to turn products that you already own into more than one-trick ponies!

I use the sugar-olive oil mixture for my lips {before applying lipstick} and for my fingers and toes when I do a quick manicure and pedicure! Great tips!

Baby powder works great for my blonde hair! (not sure it would work so well for darker hair though) :)

Love this, Martha Lynn! I had no idea you could use baby powder on hair to make it less oily- I’ll definitely be doing that!

I did a sugar and oil body scrub last weekend before shaving my legs, I swear it slows hair growth. Completely hooked!

    Xo,

Amber:: Yes proceed with caution on dark hair but if you use sparingly and brush it in really well it should work!

Ashley:: Good to know about the slowing hair growth…

I love brown sugar and olive oil for a scrub and beets for a really pretty cheek stain (which sounds really gross but looks totally natural!). Love Martha’s ideas!

Whoa, how do you use the beets?! I’m sure it stays on all day, as I can never get beet juice off my hands when I roast them!! ;)

I use baby powder on my dark brown hair and just make sure to blend it in well – works like a charm!!

Love these ideas. I have dark hair and the baby powder totally works. Another tip is putting a little drop of visine (eye drops) on a blemish. Completely takes away the redness. Does the same thing on bug bites!

I start with a clean face, splash warm water to open pores and then take the juice from a wedge of a lemon and pour onto a cotton round, then once soaked with lemon juice I will sprinkle organic sugar.. Then I exfoliate my entire face and neck with it while putting medium pressure and small circles. Once done rinse with warm and then cool water and pat dry. You will not believe the results! Skin is immediately softer, tighter and u will also notice this is great for preventing acne, as the lemon juice kills any bacteria.. This also over time will get rid of sun spots, freckles, fine lines.. Like going to the dermatologist and getting a mini peel or Microdermabrasion , but u are only spending pennies! I swear u will be so impressed u will
Want to do this every week.. Oh also removes
Self tanner, in case u went overboard with sunless
Tan and need to remove.. I definitely only use real fresh cut lemons not bottled lemon juice ( bottled kind has all preservatives in it which will seep into skin, yuck!) fresh lemons
And organic sugar are the way to glow! I mean go but hey you r going to glow too!

I also love neosporin as a cuticle cream. Heals any cracks and is full
Of vitamin E so it hydrate it too!

Also never ever shave with shaving cream! They make u go through razors ten times faster, on purpose of course so u have to buy more faster. I switched to using conditioner or keihls makes a great shaving OIL. And when I am done I keep my razor in a little jar full of Olive oil, it prevents the blades from rusting which is really why u have to throw them out. I have been using the same razor for over a month and still super sharp!

Lemon juice should be used sparingly to use with baking soda to brush teeth, as the acid will corrode the enamel. However, you can add powdered mint to the soda and use it as a tooth powder! All you do it wet your toothbrush with plain old water, tap it into the soda, and brush away!

I didn’t really learn any new tricks, but I have to try visine now on any red blemishes I get!
