Hi everyone! Claire here, with a project that I’m thrilled to say, has been one of my easiest yet. Two weeks ago I confessed to you all my need for a quick home pick-me-up to distract me from the other looming projects I’ve been putting off. I was so inspired by all the incredible designs I discovered, and after much sketching and deliberating, I decided to take pieces of each one I’d found to create my own original door design… and if this photo is any indication, it’s safe to say the whole household is pleased with the outcome! Interested in making your own? We’ve got the easy instructions just after the jump.
- door (duh!)
- paint (I chose glossy for added interest)
- tape measure
- pencil
- blue painters tape
- straight edge
- Tape off and paint door edges first. I used a neon acrylic paint for this part, it took about 4 coats.
- Measure door’s height and width and draw out a smaller version to scale out the pattern properly. I did this in order to calculate an even amount of chevrons.
- Mark the center of your door with a pencil, and use ruler to space and mark the point of each chevron. For my pattern, I marked every 13 inches.
- Using a straight edge, draw each angled line.
- Repeat steps 4 & 5 on the other side of the door.
- Tape along each line, and paint. I painted 3 coats to ensure evenness.
- Once dry, remove tape and rehang!
I love the red trim around the door!

Fabulous idea and I love the sneaky neon flash too. I’d have the fear about wobbly lines, but you’ve done a magnificent job!

monte is the cutest. great job claire!!
I love love love this idea! I can’t wait to have a house so I can try this… pretty sure our the property management company wouldn’t find it as charming as I do.
LoVe the idea! Would you mind sharing exactly which paint you used (color)?! I’m dying to do this!
Thanks Arre! For the grey I used a Behr paint, custom color match to their UL260-9 (Ashes) in High Gloss. The neon is an Derivan acrylic paint I bought at an art store. The color Fluro Red. Hope this helps!
I love love love this idea!!!
What kind of dog is that? He is beautiful!!
Thanks, Becky! He is actually a mutt (we think a mix of pitt/lab/dane). He’s a handful but such a love.
I love the red trim. It really finishes the design. Any decor is always better with a pooch and a kitty! x
