Fall on the Farm

September 25th, 2017

Fall Farm Mood Board

Some of my happiest childhood memories are of my family’s farm. For several years, we worked together with my grandparents and cousin to grow summer and fall crops. I was a notoriously picky eater as a kid (living proof that man can indeed live by grilled cheese sandwich alone). But the garden helped me break through my fear of trying new foods. I could trust zucchini a little bit more after I had grown it myself, and didn’t want to be left out of the excitement of tasting the vegetables from our latest harvest. Fall was always a good time for the garden. I loved when the pumpkins turned orange on the vine. Now that I’m a total city slicker who lives in a condo, I dream of having a garden again someday. It’s a fun thing for families to do together, and a great way to teach children about food and cooking. But until I realize my own pastoral dreams, I might just book myself a little getaway to the Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire, England. Can you imagine anything better than tucking into your own cottage with a warm fire and freshly baked bread in the kitchen?

I live on a farm, and my life is not nearly so idyllic. But I want it to be! haha, maybe with some minor changes. At least I have the chickens and a fireplace! (although the two should not be mixed haha.) I hope you get to go on your getaway!
