Pretty Simple :: Costume Makeup

Halloween is almost upon us and for me (Martha Lynn) that means trying out some fun over-the-top makeup you may be too timid to try on a regular day. Makeup can be the cherry on top of an amazing costume or, in some cases, can be the costume all on it’s own! Click through for some makeup inspiration that would turn some of your everyday clothes into a costume in a flash!

Sixties: This looks requires a lot of black and white. Line the eyes with white on the inside of the lash line and put matte white shadow on the lids then finish off with liquid liner, TONS of mascara and a nude lip. Pair this look with a shift dress and some knee high boots. source

Fairy: Makeup doesn’t have to be complicated to make a big impact. I love the extended purples to create a fairy “mask”, use a cotton ball to blend outward so the lines are soft. Pair this with a flowy sundress and braided hair. source

Bowie: The great thing about fashion is that is always circles back, and this 80’s look is a blast! I love the geometric bright colors– you could use a lightening stencil and then fill in the outline with a bright pop of color.  Pair this look with some BIG spiky hair and some ripped jeans or leather pants. Dia de los Muertos: Start out with pale white powder and a dramatic red smokey eye.  Then use a black eyeliner pencil to recreate those flower petal eye shapes and the lips stitches! Finish off with a gorgeous flower in your hair and a little black dress. source

Mermaid: I love the lashes here and while the idea of gluing sequins to your face sounds AMAZING to me, if you are nervous then you could easily make a mask out of the same sequins and voila! Pair this with an old sequin prom dress and hit the town! Watch the video tutorial here.

Betty Boop: This is definitely a more advanced look, but what jumps out to me are the amazing heart lips. Powder your lips to match your skin and then with lip liner start from the curve of your lip and draw straight down to create a heart shape!  This look calls for the perfect black wig! source

Tribal: Apply neutral face makeup all over with shimmery bronzer for a sun kissed look. Then use white face paint to apply dots around the eyes, and add in tribal lines. Pair this look with a suede or burlap fringe get-up and chunky turquoise jewelry. source
