9 Months & Lessons Learned

It’s official: I’m in the home stretch! Today marks 24 days until my due date, and while it sometimes feels like I’ve been pregnant forever, I can’t believe it’s been that long since I first announced the news to you guys. It’s amazing how much more prepared I feel to be a mom after having navigated nine months of pregnancy – reading books, polling my friends and taking time to really examine how I want to raise my child. Not to mention all that I’ve learned about navigating pregnancy itself! I’m by no means an expert, but I have picked up quite a few nuggets of wisdom – some of which I’ve learned from other moms, many of which I’ve simply learned through experience. Thought I’d share a few of them here – all things I wish I’d understood when I started on this path since they ultimately made my life a lot easier! Whether you’re a mom who’s been-there-done-that, or simply thinking you may become pregnant in the future…I’d love to hear what you think of any of these, as well as any additional tips you’d throw in the mix!

Hatch Maternity Dresses

Buy lots of dresses.

At the beginning of my pregnancy, I invested in all kinds of cute little maternity tops, jeans and shorts. However, I've been wearing loose-fitting dresses with flat sandals pretty much every day for the last 3 months. They're so much less constricting, and when belted above the bump, look instantly pulled togetherMy favorite sources have been Hatch, Anthropologie and Isabella Oliver.

Loved this post, Camille! It kinda makes me want to be pregnant again, it is such a special time. I agree about buying lots of dresses, they are always flattering on the bump and makes you feel beautiful and lady like.

    Camille,

I noticed the Bella B product you posted, I also used the Bella B line for breastfeeding and it works like a charm! You can include that one in your after-baby-arrives slide show if you like it :)

Also, one of the best things I did when I was pregnant was take some of my closest girlfriends on a one night getaway a few weeks before I was due. We picnicked in the mountains, went to the spa, got dressed up for dinner, laughed and ate… all girly stuff! I think when you are about to have your first baby you worry what will come of your relationships. This was my way of embracing my friends and showing them how much I appreciate the support they gave me during my pregnancy. Honeymoon/Babymoon… Bachelorette/Babyette :)

    Good luck to you!

I looove that idea! I’m actually having a bunch of my closest girl friends over for a pool party & barbecue this weekend, and I’m totally going to call it my Babyette! :)

That organizing you’re talking about? It’s the nesting. I organized every room in my house before Olivia was born. It’s a good feeling but man does that go away fast!

That’s great advice Camille! Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Wishing you a happy and healthy birth. I’m 24 weeks and those tips were helpful. I didn’t know about the plastic bottle thing. I need to switch to glass now.

love this! Thanks for the tips… and I’ve been thinking about plastic bottles lately, the worst is when you can actually taste the plastic in the water!

I have to agree with the glass bottle and being more conscious at what you’re drinking out of. I never became so “green” as when I had my son. I was obsessed with getting the Lifefactory glass bottles and using more natural products. This really surprised me. On the flip side, I was a runner when I got pregnant, and I slacked off on excercise during pregnancy. I figured taking it easy was more calming for me and the baby. I just lacked the energy. It’s different for everyone.

I’ll keep these in mind! I love the tea advice – I’m a huge tea drinker so this is a yay for me!
