Beauty in the Details

Martha Stewart May Flowers

How gorgeous are these wild-looking roses plucked from the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, shot by Ngoc Minh Ngo? At the risk of sounding cheesy, I’m finding the beauty in a lot of little details today…it’s funny how going through a really scary experience and coming out on the other side seems to do that, isn’t it? After a suspicious spot popped up on my sonogram a couple of weeks ago, we spent the next 10 days anxiously awaiting lab results to find out if our baby girl is okay. We got really good news late Friday afternoon, and I’ve been walking on cloud nine ever since. After this experience, one thing I can guarantee: we’ll never take having a healthy child for granted. I’m sure some of you guys have been through something similar, and no doubt a few of you didn’t receive the news you were hoping to hear. After experiencing a tiny taste of what that must feel like, my heart breaks for you. Although I’m sure that as a parent, this isn’t the last time I’ll experience fear or anxiety for my baby’s safety…I’ve been told it never really ends! For now, I’m savoring this moment of total gratitude and soaking up the beauty that’s all around me. Oh, and a fun little detail: the day we found out the good news was the same day that I first started feeling baby kicking up a storm – it’s like she’s celebrating right along with us! Keep reading for more gorgeous images from Ngo’s botanical photography series, and hope you all have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

I had a scary sonogram moment too, back 15 years ago when I was 6 months pregnant with my first, thank goodness all was fine and my Ob/gyn aka the angel who handed both my babies safely to me, had wisely decided not to say anything until after my next monthly visit as there was nothing we could do except wait for another sonogram which I walked straight into. However the 20 minutes and 3 opinions was awful and I had ticked every worst case scenario box, so how you just got through the last 10 days I just dont know, you poor darlings and Im betting my 6th rainy day here in London could not even put a dampner on your spirits now!!! So happy for you!!!! xx

Camille, I too can relate to your feelings as I have four children. I had a scare like that on my fourth, and finally getting news that the tests are ok brings overwhelming gratitude. Becoming a mother is the biggest gift you will ever receive and you will see blessings in every moment. All the best to you as you progress on your journey to motherhood.
