How to make the perfect bed with Anthropologie | Camille Styles
Let’s face it: nothing feels better than climbing into a perfectly-made bed with freshly-cleaned sheets, a fluffy duvet that you want to snuggle down into, and a mountain of cushy pillows perfect for nestling with a good book. I’m a bit of a bedding fanatic, so I was thrilled when Anthropologie asked us to team up to talk about a perfectly made bed, and give one lucky reader the chance to win the bedding of their dreams. Click through the images to see the pieces I chose for my own bed – with a few tips on how I make it a serene haven I can’t wait to crawl into at the end of a long day. And here’s how to enter to win a $500 gift card towards Anthropologie’s gorgeous bedding! Simply hop on over to their site and check out the collection, then leave a comment on this post letting us know what your dream bedding would look like (and let us know which products you’d use!) You have from now until November 15th to enter… good luck!

One of the first elements to consider when planning a bedding design is to think about layering lots of different textures so that the overall look is warm and plush. I love a monochromatic look in the bedroom but don’t want it to feel stark, so I layered lots of textural shades of white: the Ebba Jersey Duvet over Eyelit Embroidered Sheets, topped with the coziest Luxe Fur Pillow.

Don’t forget that a great bed starts with a firm foundation: a good-quality box spring, mattress and mattress pad.  100% wool mattress pads are hypoallergenic and resist odors, and they also provide a welcome layer of cushioning. And remember to flip the mattress twice a year to keep it feeling fresh!

There are loads of options when it comes to selecting the fabric for your fitted and flat sheets; feel the differences between Egyptian cotton, percale, satin and jersey to find your personal preference. If you (like most people) are intimidated by the variety of thread count options, just remember that 200 is good, 300 is great, and anything above 400 provides such an undetectable difference that it’s probably not worth the higher price.

Pillows are definitely a matter of preference, and I like to lay down 2 of the puffiest down pillows I can find, one slipped into my eyelet pillowcase, and the other in a sham that matches my duvet. One chic accent pillow or bolster finishes the look (in this case my Luxe Fur Pillow!) I tend to nix the collection of lots of little decorative pillows that can start to make things look messy (and usually just get thrown on the floor, anyway.)

Don’t forget that you’ll want to lay the flat sheet on the bed with wrong side up — that way, when you fold the top down over a blanket, the right side will be showing.

There’s no easier or more cost-effective way to give a major dose of style to the bedroom than with a couple of well-placed houseplants. A fiddle leaf fig tree adds immediate drama to an empty corner and requires little care beyond weekly watering. In addition to adding beauty, bringing plants into the room actually increases your well-being! They increase oxygen levels, remove toxins from the air and have been shown to decrease fatigue, colds and headaches.

In a world of jam-packed schedules where life moves at a hectic pace, it’s especially important that the bedroom be an escape from everyday life. I can truly say that there’s nowhere I’d rather be at the end of a long day than curled up in my bed with a great book, a hot cup of tea and a great-smelling candle. Can’t wait to read about all of your dream bedding in the comments — no doubt it’ll inspire me to make a few additions to my own!
