Transformed :: Graphic Signage

repurposed wooden board wanted black white subway signage DIY

Morning, everyone! Claire here with a home decor poll that I’d love your help with. If you’ve been following along with Camille’s travels (green with envy like me, I’m sure), then you know that she and Adam recently wandered west for a Southern California getaway. While there, the two of them stumbled upon a striking piece of graphic artwork which Adam thought would be perfect for his no-frills work space… and days later, my newest transformed project was conceived! Now, all I need is your help to move forward. Ranging from totally rustic to framed and crisp, I’ve gathered a few examples of the kind of graphic piece we have in mind, and I’d love to hear from you all which you’d like to see reinterpreted for Adam’s office wall. Comments, ideas and suggestions are welcome, and stay tuned for the big reveal in two weeks!

    i definitely think it should be crisp and polished. subwy signs are always clearly stated and normally covered in glass (ie framed) and in order to give the true essence of your inspiration i think it definitely should be like and actual subway sign. :)

    I like the top one (was that an option?) and the one with the Emerson quote. Actually, I like them all.

    I LOVE the pallet with the emerson quote. I’ve seen refurbished pallets popping up here and there and think they are a great unique and rustic addition to a room. Plus, with this one you’d be able to customize with your own quote. My vote goes to rustic.

    Claire, love these! My hubby is a big fan of graphics. In a perfect world, we’d love a design style that blends industrial and beach-rustic with modern pops of color and art. Thanks for the inspiration!

    I feel like you need some input from a dude on this one. The examples in the first picture and the fourth picture are by far my favorite (and the most masculine). Clean lines, fewer frills, bolder font. I would be extremely pleased with something like that in my office, den, or even living room. The rustic version with the Emerson quote is a little girly. Can’t wait to see the finished product though Claire, I’m sure it will be awesome.

      I rarely get masculine input and it is always appreciated (especially for this project). Thanks, Barrett!!

    Definitely the pallet styled one with the emerson quote. i feel like the top style was originated at Restoration Hardware then copied by Z Gallerie and later found at every Homegoods… so best to move forward and do something a little different.

    I love the first one it’s classic and would look good in any space. I like the polish of it!

    I like the last polished “restoration hardware” look!

    (and hopefully without straying too far from what you are trying to accomplish) I also have a weird idea for your DIY! I’ve tried to excute it once myself for wall art, but I am sure your interpretation would be much better than mine.

    Maybe it’s my wanderlust speaking, but I love the look of maps in home decor – so my idea is to stencil your text or graphics onto a map, and then have that framed similar to option 4. This would be less practical to do with a real antique map, but you could use a poster/wrapping paper map that looks antiqued. If you paint the whole think black (over some stencils as to leave the map peeking through as text) – it shouldn’t look too generic! You could even use the same poster twice to create multiple pieces, because different text will reveal parts of the map!

    Hope that is not too much personal input! You’ve got me itching to do some DIY’s once I’m no longer a nomad :) – Jenny

      Girl we are on the same wavelength!! I am obsessed with maps and am definitely going to do a Transformed using one, possibly for this, but if not stay tuned for that soon! (and I always love personal input.)

    I like all of them but the Emerson poem is the best.

    I vote Restoration one! Though they are all awesome, this seems the most manly and polished. :)

    I think the clean and polished ones work best in an office space. Rustic ones can work well in homes that have more shabby chic designs, but in a contemporary office I think that clean cut art is best.
