How many designers and stylists have we heard respond to the question What is your personal style? with something along the lines of, “It’s all about the mix! High and low, old and new, modern and classic.” We all know how crucial “the mix” can be, yet when it comes to shopping for furniture and homewares, I (Cristina) am undeniably drawn to certain styles and themes. A sucker for clean Scandinavian lines, neutrals, and bright modern art, I find it difficult to work antiques, traditional pieces and darker colors into my space. Try shopping with a friend who has different taste to yours, their perspective might point out pieces you’d otherwise overlook. If you always go to the same blogs, magazines, and shops then try changing up your routine for fresh inspiration (for me this means trying my hand at antiquing). Or try introducing just one different piece to a room, like adding a landscape painting to your gallery wall of photographs – the diversity will make your collection more interesting! Keep reading for ideas to bring variety into your home, and I’d love to know: what elements are missing from your mix?
