5 Ideas to Steal from This Parisian Kitchen

March 3rd, 2017

When I scroll through my social feeds it can sometimes feel like I have the only kitchen in the world without marble countertops, built-in open shelving and a giant island. Of course I would love to have all of those things in my kitchen, but I also love seeing the unique ways people show their personality in their homes, like this French home inspired by Moroccan craftsmanship. So I got excited when I saw this galley kitchen with its peach painted walls and, is that a nude photo on the wall? Whether you’re renting and looking for ways to accessorize or are ready to renovate, here are a few ideas you can steal from this dreamy French kitchen.

An eclectic mix of art – This kitchen has it all from a family photo, a nude portrait, to antique paintings in gilded frames. I know that when I buy art I always gravitate towards the same graphic, abstract paintings but one of my goals is to try and diversify what I hang on my walls with photographs and different types drawings and paintings.

Glossy cabinets – I painted my kitchen cabinets navy blue and I can honestly say it transformed the entire look of my standard, brown builder grade kitchen cabinets without breaking the bank. A glossy paint would add even more drama if you’re looking to give your kitchen more character.

French accessories – The small collection of white French pitchers in the inspiration photo is a good reminder that with one trip to your local antique mall you can bring this look home. Designers swear by grouping items in odd numbers, so keep that in mind when styling your collection.

Paint one wall – In the last few years we’ve largely moved away from feature walls, but the peach wall in this kitchen has me reconsidering the effect a little color could do for a smaller space like the kitchen or a powder room. Plus peachy pinks are universally flattering!

Patterned tiles – This is the stand out trend of 2017 so far, and I don’t see it going anywhere any time soon. I love the mix of prints in this pattern (from Overstock) and the fact that it could bring some old world appeal to a newer home.
