9 Engagement Sessions That Don’t Make Us Cringe

By Carmen Collins

We’ve all scrolled through those albums of unsettling engagement photos on Facebook or Pinterest… Awkward poses and out-of-character outfits can often steer the focus away from the newly engaged couple. In order to avoid these photo faux pas, we’ve listed out four tips to help you nail your engagement session – no matter how nervous you are! After taking some notes, scroll through the gallery below to see our favorite engagement sessions. We sure are suckers for love!

Choose a location that means something to you. Whether it’s the kitchen you spend every morning in, or the destination of your favorite trip, picking the right location will ensure you love your photos for years to come. Recreate your first date. Stumble upon an idyllic nature setting. Take your photographer through you and your fiancé’s daily routine. Choosing a location that you love will help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera.

Get acquainted with your photographer. We suggest grabbing coffee or drinks with your photographer before shoot day. Get to know them and find out what you have in common. Don’t be scared to tell them if you hate being in front of the camera – they’re used to that! Then, when you show up for your engagement session, you’ll feel like you are meeting up with a friend, rather than having your picture taken by a total stranger.

Wear something that makes you happy. Engagement photos can be as fancy or casual as you please. Not feeling heels that day? Walk around barefoot. Want to dress up and head out in the city? We’ll take any reason to buy a new dress. Your outfit should make you feel comfortable and beautiful! Make sure you fiancé picks out something he likes to. You guys don’t have to match exactly, but sticking to the same color palette will make your photos look cohesive.

Don’t think too much. We know it’s easier said than done, but if you’ve followed the tips above, you’ve already got everything in place for an amazing photo session. Turn on some music, put on a smile, and have fun with your fiancé. The best photos come to life when couples are having a genuinely good time. Spontaneous laughs and natural hugs and kisses will ensure that you love your engagement photos as much as you loved taking them.
