The Prettiest Way To Wrap Gifts This Mothers Day

By Carmen Collins
furoshiki wrapping, the prettiest way to wrap gifts with fabric!

I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but I’ve been super inspired by Japanese DIY projects lately. First there was my hot pink shibori dyed pillowcases, and now I’m going to introduce you to two of the coolest ways to wrap gifts using fabric. There are endless techniques for furoshiki wrapping – you can create an easy tote bag to carry your groceries home or a fun head wrap to accessorize an outfit – but with Mothers Day right around the corner, I decided to create something with my mom in mind. This year I’m ditching the wrapping paper and wrapping my Mothers Day gifts in fabric that my mom will love just as much as the gift inside.

I picked up these three fabrics at my local craft store. You’ll just need one yard of each. I loved the bright and feminine floral motifs that felt perfect for spring. Some of my other favorite sources for fabric are Spoonflower and Minted. Other than your gift, pretty fabric and flowers are the only supplies you’ll need for this project.

First up, I wrapped this square gift box. I filled mine with a few of my mom’s favorite soaps and lotions, but feel free to put fresh baked cookies or a handmade gift in yours! One yard of fabric was the perfect size for my box, but I’m excited to experiment with other shapes and sizes of boxes for future projects.

This second technique of furoshiki wrapping is perfect for those women in our lives who prefer a bottle of vino (or two!). Sometimes a bottle of wine can feel like a cop out gift, but dressed up in pretty fabric this gift is sure to be a winner. Plus, it’s two gifts in one!

Mothers Day is a chance to celebrate all of the women in our lives that we love – mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and friends who feel like family.

And for those of you who need a little reminder, Mothers Day is on Sunday, May 14th this year. You’ve still got time to put together a gift mom will love!
