Claire here – and is anyone else already feeling caught up in the bustle of balancing work and holiday fun, and fretting a bit over finding the perfect presents for family and friends? This fun DIY makes a wonderful (and inexpensive!) gift. If you remember two weeks ago I asked for your opinions on which jewelry tree I should make for Chanel (Chanel, now’s your cue to stop reading!) After pondering all your great comments and suggestions I decided to make a branch style jewelry tree with a twist. I’ve been wanting to experiment with cement for a while and thought it would make the perfect base for the tree. Add a touch of gold and voila! A delicate and unique hanger for Chanel to show off all her jewels. Want to make your own? Follow the instructions below!
- lichen branches (I got mine from a local flower company)
- white spray paint
- gold spray paint
- scissors
- bucket
- stick for stirring
- measuring cup
- Rapid Set Cement
- container for mold
- blue painters tape
- PAM spray
- gorilla glue/hot glue gun
- Spray branches and allow to dry.
- Once dry, arrange and trim however you desire.
- Set aside and spray the inside of your mold container with PAM.
- Follow instructions on the Rapid Cement to mix using bucket, stir stick, and measuring cup.
- Pour into container and set branches into cement.
- Hold branches in place until concrete is set.
- Once the concrete is set (i recommend waiting longer than the instructions say), carefully slide the cement form out of the mold.
- Using blue painters tape, tape off a pattern on the lower part of your base. Spray and wait to dry.
- If you want to reinforce or reposition any of the branches use a little bit of gorilla glue or hot glue to set as desired.
