Editors’ Essentials :: Chanel

By Camille Styles

I’ve had the privilege of working side-by-side with Chanel since she was in college (my very first intern!) and it’s been fun to see her evolve into a confident, well-traveled twenty-something who’s usually the one filling me in on what various cultural references mean. The things that haven’t changed? Her willingness to take style risks (and ability to pull them off), and penchant for nailing a trend first…usually moving onto the next big thing by the time the rest of us have caught on. The girl knows what she likes – and thankfully she’s sharing the details here!

Avocados.  I’ve already totally geeked out about avocados, so I’ll spare you guys another confession of my very real love for the fruit. Let’s just leave it at: I’m addicted to avocados. image.

Breath of Fresh Air toner, Lush Cosmetics. With ingredients like fresh spring water, fresh sea water, aloe vera, rosemary oil and seaweed extract, a spritz of this stuff works wonders to replenish and rehydrate my skin. image.

Espadrille Slip-ons. As of this summer, a good pair of espadrille-style loafers (or two) have become my new wardrobe staple. Plus, I’m thinking I’ll be able to get away with wearing these a few months into fall, too! Soludos and KAANAS both make some great styles. image.

The Mat in black, Lululemon. After eyeing it for almost a year, I was finally given this yoga mat for my birthday! It’s cushy, grippy, antimicrobial, and so worth the splurge. image (original source unknown).

Leather Baggu in black. I’d been in the market for a quality, leather every-day bag (that didn’t cost a fortune) for a while, and this one couldn’t be more perfect. I’ve now got my eye on the Saffron one…

Sushi. I know this seems like a total cop-out, because who doesn’t love sushi? But I crave the stuff for nearly every meal of every day. image (original source unknown).

Kitchenaid Standing MixerFinally! I’ve been wanting a Kitchenaid for years (along with the rest of domesticated civilization), and simply couldn’t hold out for the day it’d be included on my wedding registry. I just got one in black, and have about two dozen to-bake recipes in the pipeline.

Moon Over Mumbai by OPI. Does anyone else go through nail polish phases? This milky, light gray shade by OPI is my current go-to.

Coco. Honestly, it’s hard to find the words to adequately describe the love I share with my Pomeranian. Ridiculously cute (as you can plainly see) and hilariously spunky, she’s the Coco to my Chanel.

HBO’s The WireThis is more of a representation of my television-watching habits in general: I choose a single series, and plow through its seasons like it’s my job. I wrapped Season 3 of The Wire last night… two more seasons to go, then it’s on to the next one!

Tel Aviv, Israel. I may be a tad biased given that my entire family resides here, but in my opinion, Tel Aviv is the best city on earth. Endless beaches, a buzzing nightlife and Parisian-style cafes on every corner, I try to make a trip out to TLV at least once a year. image (original source unknown).

98.9 KUTXCall me old-school, but rather than enlisting in a Spotify  station, XM Radio or my iTunes library, my driving soundtrack still comes from trusty ole’ FM radio… namely, Austin’s community-supported KUTX. Commercial-free and with carefully curated playlists from music guru DJs, I never touch the dial. image.
