Introductions, Please! Jennifer & Tyler

May 25th, 2012

Thrilled to introduce the newest additions to the CamilleStyles.com team, production assistant Tyler Ruby and design assistant Jennifer Rose Smith (who did these awesome layouts, btw.) They both started in the office last week…and are already pretty much rocking my world. Wanted to get you all acquainted by sharing what inspires, keeps their creativity flowing, and the Austin spots they just can’t get enough of. Without further ado…

*follow the jump to read about Jennifer’s picks…and meet Tyler!

  • Name / nickname - Jennifer Rose Smith, aka “Shortpants”
  • Two adjectives that describe you - Free-spirited, loyal
  • Favorite series on the blog - I love so many of them! Do You Dare and Iconic Hostess are two of my favorites.
  • The three foods (or drinks) you ‘d choose to have if you were stranded on a dessert island: -  A Titos-Infused Bloody Mary, fried chicken from Lucy’s in South Austin, and iced tea (sweet, of course!)
  • What trend (fashion, interiors, or otherwise) can you not get enough of right now? I’m currently having a hard time not wearing my chambray button-down every single day. It looks good with almost everything! I also can’t stop buying succulent plants. While I follow a lot of national trends, I think regional influences can also be a genuinely cool part of personal style. Here in Austin, things like Lucchese boots and antiques from local flea markets never go out of style. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with the retro signage created by local artist Todd Sanders of Roadhouse Relics.
  • Music currently playing in your car - Li’l Cap’n Travis, Penny & The Quarters
  • The one accessory or gadget you can’t live without - I love my POP phone handset for long talks with out-of-state friends. It takes me straight back to junior high.
  • How do you take your coffee? - seldom
  • Ultimate favorite place in Austin - There are so many! But every time I’m at the Hotel San Jose courtyard I find myself thinking, life is good.

  • Name & nickname(s) - Tyler, Ty and my parents like to call me by my middle name, Joseph.
  • Two adjectives that describe you - Artful and Expressive
  • Favorite series on the blog - Being an interior design junkie, I love Bring it HomeCristina has great taste and I love that she appreciates multiple aesthetics. It never fees like something you’ve seen before on Camille Styes but it always makes sense for the blog.
  • The three foods (or drinks) you ‘d choose to have if you were stranded on a dessert island: - 1) Avocado (I eat one with every meal, literally). 2) I couldn’t live without Cherrywood breakfast taco’s. My favorite is the Terra Taco; it’s a flour tortilla with fried tofu, scrambled egg, potato strings and green onions piled high with shredded cheddar cheese. I seriously drool thinking about it. Lastly, I’m kind of a freak about french fries. Anytime, anywhere.
  • What trend (fashion, interiors, or otherwise) can you not get enough of right now? I love the grunge/90′s revival trend that’s been pretty prevalent in men’s fashion as of late. I find myself pulling out my flannel cut offs and military boots when I go out these days. Another trend I’m loving is urban gentleman with a rustic twist. Short sleeve plaids, brown boots, distressed leather bags, etc. It’s the look I choose for around the office or when I’m out and about during the day. Interior design trends I’m loving are varying. I love stark modern interiors that are accessorized with natural elements and organic shapes. I’ve seen a lot of antlers, crystals, furs, succulents etc paired with modern materials like lucite and concrete and it’s so contrasting and chic. So in short, pairing modern materials with rustic accessories.
  • Music currently playing in your car - Grimes “Visions” and Teeel “University Heights”. The two latest albums from a couple of my favorite’s. I love anything electronic.
  • The one accessory or gadget you can’t live without - 1) I love my UrbanEars headphones, they make everything you listen to sound great and have a cool retro look. They’re a great accessory and make walking across campus way more bearable. 2) My favorite accessory is my wolf head ring. It’s silver and the eyes are rubies, which is a nice touch because Ruby is my last name ;)
  • How do you take your coffee? - I take it as a soy latte over ice. I literally sometimes can’t wait to wake up in the morning so I can get my coffee. It’s a solid part of my routine.
  • Ultimate favorite place in Austin - I think my favorite place in Austin is Mount Bonnell. It’s beautiful, serene, and the sunsets are the best in the city. It’s a great place to go and clear your head.

  5. Awesome!! Good luck as you get settled in ~ it sounds like everything is going great so far!

Jennifer – I am sooo curious about a Tito’s-infused bloody mary? Yum! And I feel you on the succulents – I’m from TX and it reminds me of home :)

Tyler – I’m sure your already aware of this but I think you would love Portland, OR (where I live). 90s style is in full-swing here, I dig it too.

Amberly, you can make your own infused-Tito’s at home with peppers and a big glass jar… but I recommend just ordering one at the South Congress Cafe the next time you’re in Austin. Theirs are the best!

  18. [...] Jenn here, still soaking up one of my favorite times of year. The weather was decidedly cooler in Austin today, and it felt like the whole town was enjoying being outside. Earlier this week I picked up the August issue of Food & Wine magazine, and have been waiting to share this lovely story they ran about actor Bill Pullman’s orchard in California. He and his wife host what they like to call “old-fashioned threshing parties” with friends and family. What better way to enjoy the end of summer than to host an outdoor canning party? If her gorgeous blog Roost doesn’t already make you want to live like Caitlin Van Horn, then check out these beautiful photos she posted of her recent trip to England and Italy. With an elegant palette of muted, earthy colors and a natural eye for photography, Caitlin always manages to capture something romantic with her camera. And while we’re a long way from January 6th (when season three of our favorite show will premiere), what an unexpected treat to see these beautiful shots she took of Highclere Castle. The castle, which is periodically open to the public for touring, is used as the primary location for Downton Abbey! See more after the jump… [...]
