DIY Light Fixture | Camille Styles

Are you all familiar with the old saying that “The cobbler’s children go barefoot”? For those of you who didn’t know, I (Claiream an interior designer here in Austin. And while I absolutely revel in hunting down the perfect items for transforming our clients’ spaces, I’ve found that I often fail to treat my own home with the same careful thoughtfulness. Fabulous lighting is one area where I totally covet some of my clients’ pieces — the right light fixture can serve as a work of art, and transforms nice rooms into extraordinary spaces. But since many of my favorite designs are outside of my budget, I’ve set out to make one myself. I’ve been scouring the web for some inspirational images, but before I commit to a design I’d love to hear your opinions: Which of these light fixtures would you like to see reinterpreted and recreated? Pitch in your thoughts and ideas in the comments section, and stay tuned for the reveal with instructions in two weeks!

  1. Definitely #3…love me some brass!!!

  2. 1 and 3 are both so fabulous!

    Number 1!

  4. I couldnt agree more. I’m always styling people and writing about style, but when it comes time to spend money on my home and wardrobe, its always the expensive pieces you want…. and, then you hold out and wind up never getting anything!

I think the tree branch is unique, the circles are awesome, but the black wire-looking one at the top is the most versatile. You could always put it over your dining table, and in a few years, change it up and put it at your entry way or back room to mix things up. That’s my pick!

  5. Melissa says:

#1, being you could use any style bulb in it (including ugly non-Plumen CFLs or LEDs) and still have the fixture look great.

  6. Debra says:

I like #4 most of all.

love the tree branch but it could definitely be done in a cooler way. it reminds me of something my dad would have designed and loved. i also think a crepe myrtle branch would be interesting because of the variation in the wood grain. you have beautiful taste Claire.

  17. I really like 3- would look cool in a breakfast nook (although I like the branch as well but it looks like an easy one to figure out.) Where would you get the wild bulbs for 2?
