Weekend Notes

July 14th, 2012

Ever since reading this book as a little girl, I’ve had a love affair with Paris and its exports – croissants, striped shirts and Céline bags included. I finally got to go when my mom took me there on the ultimate high school graduation trip, and I’ll never forget the week we spent eating mont blancs at Angelina, touring Monet’s gardens in Giverny, sneaking into a fashion show, walking awestruck through the Musée d’Orsay, and stumbling upon countless other adventures. Adam and I went back a couple summers ago, and it was every bit as magical as I remembered. So every year on Bastille Day, I experience a tinge of longing to actually experience it in France, especially after reading Jordan’s account of their Bastille Day picnic at Versailles last year. Have any of you ever been to France for Bastille Day? What was it like? I’d love to hear…

By the way, Adam and I are off to a “childcare class” today – they cover such crucial topics as how to change a diaper, burp a baby, swaddling, etc. Should be hysterical to watch, and hopefully it’s a bit educational, too. I’ll let you know how it goes! Hope you all have a lovely Saturday, and enjoy my favorite links from the week!

These chocolate rolls look too good to be true.

Obsessed with the palette in this California Dreaming shoot.

I shared a few tips on how I get my pantry party-ready, over on Babble this week.

Thinking of making today an official Saturdate.

The perfect use for all the peaches & apricots I can’t stop buying.

The most stunning signature cocktail.

A flood of memories just came back with the Linnea book. I had the doll as well 🙂 It also started my love affair with France……. So much that my grandmother took me to Paris for my 12th birthday. Oh so many magical memories! Thanks for sharing.

yes I have been to Paris during Bastille Day. I was 12. It was so much fun. It was also the same time as the 96 summer olympics which France hosted that year so it was crazy. i remember decorating the balcony of our uncle’s apartment for both reason.

  8. I loved loved that book! I have been to Paris a few times but I regret I haven’t made it to giverny. I would love to get that book for my daughter and take her one day!

Thank you so much for your blog! It is such a joy to read and always brightens my day.

As a French person living in Paris I would say the best part of July 14th is watching the fireworks pop behind the Eiffel Tower. Magical.
But it was fun being in a little town this year to experience a less formal celebration with marching bands and other groups (think 10-year old cheerleaders in cute little dresses, representing their nearby village) parading through the streets. So much fun!
