Monochromatic Monday :: Caprese Salad

caprese_inspiration

In the three years that we’ve been married, Adam and I have visited some amazing places together…and sometimes just for fun, we look back and choose our favorite moments, meals and memories from all our travels. Our honeymoon to Capri and Rome often wins in every category, and always wins when it comes to the food. It was on this trip that we fell head-over-heels in love with all things caprese, and I swear we ate some form of tomatoes, mozzarella and basil (on pizza! pasta! salads! bruschetta!) at every single meal. Perhaps it was the indescribable buffalo mozzarella that’s everywhere there (and impossible to find in America)… or perhaps it was the fact that we were enjoying it on the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast or in the shadow of the Spanish Steps that made it seem so magical. In any case, it’s a flavor combination we recreate at home all the time, and the bright tomato red and herbal green would make such a lovely color palette for a summertime dinner party, no? Load up on heirloom tomatoes at the farmers market, top a rustic table with a red & white checked cloth, or pack up a picnic basket with all the fixin’s for a romantic dinner à deux. Salute!

    Italy is a place I have never traveled too but it’s certainly on the list of places to see. Needless to say, I could eat caprese salad everyday though. Luckily my garden tomatoes are just about ready.

    we did the same each night, before we fall sleep, we think about the place that we have been and we want to come back in our night dreams… I think it is a lovely way to remember and prolong our holidays (our best time during all year!)

    Drew and I went to Italy for our honeymoon too – Rome, Amalfi Coast, Florence, and Siena. Two glorious relaxing weeks. And lots of pizza. :)

    Oh, I LOVE this post. I went to Italy with my husband last year and couldn’t get enough of those colors. Red tomatoes, white cheese, pink flowers, blue sea. It was perfect!

    Adore this post. Caprese (especially when eaten in Italy . . .) is hands down one of the greatest things on earth. Thanks for bringing back such lovely memories. xx
