Okay you guys, my husband doesn’t exactly love it when I talk about him on this blog, but I’ve just gotta gush about the incredible birthday surprise that he planned for me on Sunday. After a crazy busy couple of weeks filled with parties and planning and lots of meetings, I let him know that I wanted a quiet birthday dinner at home, just the two of us. He executed to perfection, but did take the liberty of inviting a couple surprise guests to join us…
When I got home on Sunday evening, I was greeted with a big smile, glass of sauvignon blanc and beautifully set table on the terrace. Oh, and did I mention that a chef was in the kitchen?
And a spanish guitarist, to serenade us with beautiful melodies throughout dinner? Mmmhmm!
Dinner was course after course of the most incredible Baja flavors, from tuna ceviche to mango pico de gallo to grilled snapper veracruzana. We talked and laughed and ate to the sounds of spanish guitar until the sun went down.
The takeaway? I’m reminded to think about little ways to turn a low-key night at home into a full-on celebration. Even if a private chef’s not in the budget, one can always drape a mexican blanket on the table and create the most rockin’ fiesta-inspired playlist, right? Thanks to my honey for knowing how to make a night truly unforgettable. And thanks to the team at Word of Mouth for making my favorite food ever!
Cheers!…to living a life that feels and smells, and tastes just right.
