Hope everyone had a relaxing Labor Day weekend! Claire, here, and today I thought I’d ask your opinion on my upcoming project :: a headboard! My bed is currently missing one, and so I’ve decided to take the leap and create my own. Of course, there are so many options for DIY headboards that I became totally overwhelmed by the possibilities, and realized I had to enlist in our readers for some help. After narrowing ideas down to my material of choice, here are my initial thoughts…
I love the idea of resting my head near a natural headboard made of some sort of reclaimed wood. It’s unique, varied, and brings an element of art on the wall. Pallets? Old flooring? Or some reclaimed building wood? You be the judge! Let me know your favorite and stay tuned for the project completed!

Those are really nice! Unfortunately for the narrowing it down aspect of your post I really like them all.
I love the photo of the pallet headboard on the bottom. With the slats going vertically, I think it adds wonderful height to the bed. Great ideas!
I like the palette best! I think you could take advantage of the depth and add some unique back -lighting!
you know i am going to pick #1!!! do it!!
I love the rustic and organic feel that these headboards bring into a sleek, modern environment. Although, I think the second one is too stark and uninteresting. I really like the interest added by the multiple slats of wood but I definitely like the last one the best. It has depth AND character…just hope you find a splinter-less pallet for your headboard.
I like the second one the best. The wood isn’t as jarring, but it’s still a fantastic looking piece. Have you thought about incorporating cool fabric somehow? It might be neat to cover part of the wood with a neat fabric.
LOVE the reclaimed wood.. I used reclaimed storm shutters.. same effect, with a different look and texture!
Hi Claire!! I like the top one- the idea of printing or painting on the headboard. Reminds me of this piece at cb2: http://www.cb2.com/art/accessories/birds-on-a-wire-print/f6863
love wins out always! least pretentious and warm and gentle somehow. my husband made ours years ago. it’s rough unfinished wood in a sunrise design…very cool
I like the second one as well! I was also considering making a DIY headboard last week, but I was thinking about using my square rattan place mats from Pottery Barn. 2 or 3 rows of those things lined up would make a really cute headboard, and I swear no one would even know that they’re really place mats!!
I LOVE the first one!!!!!!!!!
I think the the third option gives you the most versatility to change you linens and is not as modern as the second option
…I think I’m sort of in love with this! I wouldn’t have thought I’d like something like this (I tend to have a more modern masculine style, I guess), but it’s actually really cute!
I love the first one…I think having the paint with a matching pillow really brings everything together.
I actually am a huge fan of #2. So simple and clean. I’d probably spice up the bedding a bit though.
Like them all, but…
Number 1!
Number 1!
Number 1!
Number 1!
I am obsessed with the first one! Great find!
Aaron and I have been looking for an upholstered bed, but the reclaimed wood image idea be a game changer
I’m going to go with a combination of #1 and #3. I like the love scrawl but really like the linearity of option three. Plus three seems… sturdier.
Thanks everyone for the opinions, thoughts, and suggestions!! I’ve currently been on the hunt for wood (a lot of dumpster diving and back alley driving!) my new headboard will be posted next Tuesday!
I love the first one!!! Where can I find how to make these? I am currently in re-decorating mode and I want to make a head board for my bed similar to the first one. However I need some instructions. Thank you!
