My Life, Styled :: Valentine’s Day Date

Happy Valentine’s week! My husband, Aaron, travels a lot for work, so we somehow always find ourselves in separate states for Valentine’s Day.  It may not be the most romantic way to spend the holiday, but we try to make up for it when he comes home on the weekend. Whether your significant other is near or far, it can be really stressful trying to get off work early or get a great reservation when the holiday falls in the middle of the week… sometimes it’s nice to hold out for the weekend and then enjoy a full day date together!

When Aaron and I first began hanging out as friends, not admitting to anyone else or ourselves that we liked each other, we spent quite a few nights after dinner playing games around his coffee table.  Uno, Scattergories, Blackjack, Scrabble — you name it, we played it! (Someday when we are 80 our relationship is going to come full circle! I can already picture us around the table playing backgammon or something of the sort!) I thought this year for Valentine’s Day, instead of the usual nice dinner date, it would be fun to spend the day at the beach playing games, drinking bubbly and enjoying a little sand under our feet. The beach in February is amazing since it is pretty much deserted, plus you can’t beat the ocean breeze for some much needed calm and relaxation.

Even more now that we’re married, I love putting together cute outfits when we get to spend time together on the weekends. I know he appreciates it and it makes the day feel more special to me if I have put in some effort. These red twill shorts from a-thread seemed like the perfect place to start for a Valentine’s Day Date! (It’s probably a little warmer here than some places, but a fun printed pant would do the trick as well). I can’t even tell you how much I wear this chambray shirt.  It’s the gift that keeps on giving every time I walk into my closet. Tucking it in gives me more of a waist and makes the look more feminine. I added a skinny belt for good measure, even if the shorts are sans belt loops. For a fun romantic touch, I cut a small strip of this oversized floral scarf for my hair and laid out the rest for a cozy spot for our game day date! I found this pink bag at Target — it reminded me a lot of this one, don’t you think? The shoes are from Gap, first shot in this post. Because the print of the scarf and shorts was on the busier side, I kept the other accessories super minimal. The cute gold heart ring is by boe.

My husband and I always say we’re not going to do anything fancy, then he surprises me. This year, we’re going to dinner and staying at the same hotel we stayed in our wedding night for the weekend. We both had to work on our anniversary last month, so we’re making up for that as well. I absolutely love your floral scarf! These images are making me miss the beach so much! Happy Valentines :)

Yep, I planned a sunset picnic on the beach for Sunday as a sort of pre-valentine’s day adventure (since it’s on a weeknight). Little did I know it would be the best day of my life, and the most romantic………..he proposed. I’m having a prettttttttttttttyyyyyyyyyy good V-Day week so far :)

I think low-key is the best, we’ll probably rent a movie and fix a nice dinner (we have kids and babysitters are hard to find around valentines day!)
