Today I’m thrilled to introduce a brand new monthly series here on the blog: Little Things will be brimming with inspiration for fun get-togethers to do with the littles in your life — and if you don’t have any, you just might get inspired to let loose and act like a kid yourself for a day. Carrie Ryan will be bringing her artistic background (and her mad skills behind the lens) to each creative concept, and today she’s kicking it off with a day at the Berry Farm…

If there’s one foolproof way to keep my kids entertained and full of wonder for the day, it’s to get them outside. Like really, they would live outside if I wasn’t bothered by the fact that they would start looking like creatures from the lost lagoon. But let’s be honest, the neighborhood park can only be so exciting for so long (maybe mostly for me), so I love it when I’m reminded of all the exciting things there are to do in and around town that are quite simple. Ideas like this can totally change the trajectory of a seemingly ordinary day with the kids. Recently, my friend Sam called me to say she had the day off and wanted to make some memories with the kids. The weather was divine and the berries were getting ripe, so we packed up the little people and headed out to Sweet Berry Farm for an afternoon of berry picking (and tasting,) goat feeding, bouncing, and endless running. Memories were certainly made, and the entire day required little planning.

Sweet Berry Farm has rows and rows of delicious berries ripe for picking, with the selection changing with the season. All you have to do is get your box and start your hunt for the ripest berries you can find.

After one quick reminder that ‘the redder the better,’ the boys were on a mission. There’s something so satisfying about the thrill of the hunt.

Lucky for us, the berry picking was just the beginning of the fun at Sweet Berry Farm. Popsicles made from fresh strawberry puree were readily available so perfect for the sunny day. (Sharing my own interpretation of the pops, with a recipe, below!)

To say he liked his treat is a bit of an understatement.

Just beyond the berry fields, there are some darling (and quite social) goats just begging to be fed and talked to.

You can purchase little cups of food and let them lick it right out of the palm of your hand.  One of the boys (not mine) LOVED this. One of the boys (mine) was just fine admiring the goats from a distance.  To each his own at Sweet Berry Farm.

And to round out the afternoon, just in case you have a shred of energy left, there is a spot to bounce out all your final jitters (some that may be caused from popsicle sugar rushes or perhaps, a hypothetical fear of goats…). I’ll recreate this day in a heartbeat. It was unforgettable for the kids and a blast for my friend and me to chat away and watch our kids foster their love/hate relationship with both berries and goats.
