Local or just visiting, navigating the Austin shopping scene can be intimidating. So much goodness to choose from means it can be difficult to know where to start. Sprinkled all over this beautiful city are some of the most amazing boutiques you’ll encounter. Some stores have been doing it right for decades, while others have popped up more recently but found loyal fans fast. Since we consider ourselves ‘experts’ when it comes to shopping, especially in our hometown, it seemed only fair that we share our cheat sheet and give you the roadmap to the best boutiques in Austin.
TAKE HEART – 1111 East 11th St.
Take Heart is a charming boutique located in East Austin that offers a curated selection of thoughtfully designed objects for the home. Showcasing local and American artisans, as well as international makers with an emphasis on Japanese design, it’s the perfect place to find something truly special.

BY GEORGE – 524 North Lamar
By George has been around from the beginning, before any other boutique was bringing high-fashion to Austin. The Lamar store is the flagship location and carries some of the most breathtaking clothes in the city- covetable collections, straight from the runway for both men and women.

By George South Congress is just as amazing as the original with a slightly more casual vibe. Offering an eclectic mix of designers for men, women and home, this is the shop to discover some of the most exciting new lines from around the world that are less classic and more experimental.

WILDFLOWER – 524 N Lamar Blvd
Wildflower might have the best selection of organic mattresses in Austin, but who’s thinking of buying beds when they’re surrounded by dreamy decor and endless design inspiration?! Luxe linens, statement-making furniture and an incredible book collection . . . the list is long.

ROOM SERVICE – 107 E. North Loop Blvd.
This well known vintage shop has been open and serving Austin thrifters for over 35 years. Room Service is packed top to bottom and front to back with treasures from bygone eras. Favorites include- 50s-70s furniture, lighting, art, pottery and novelties.

EAST AUSTIN SUCCULENTS – 801 Tillery St.
Be warned, you might want a pickup truck and a strong man with you for this visit. Obscure succulents, strange-looking plants and bins of dreamy gems will tempt you, but giant cactus and enormous fiddle leaf figs will demand you take them home.

GARDEN HOUSE – 1515 West 35th St.
Garden House is a stunning nursery and well-curated lifestyle shop by loved landscape architecture firm Thompson & Hanson. The shop stocks native and unusual plants, european antiques, garden furniture and beautiful containers for both garden and home.

FEATHERS – 1700 B South Congress Ave.
The ultimate shopping destination for a free spirit. Vintage jeans and tees, and all the beaded and embroidered stuff you can imagine. Conveniently located on South Congress, it’s an easy stop for hipsters between brunch and festival.

SLOW NORTH – 2700 W. Anderson Lane
Hand crafted with purpose. Slow North makes truly magical candles and sells them with a lovely display of goods from other thoughtful makers. A charming selection of bath + body, accessories and affordable jewelry make it a perfect pop-in for gifting.

SOUTH CONGRESS HOTEL LOBBY SHOP – 1603 South Congress
The Lobby Shop is located on the ground floor of the South Congress Hotel and offers a surprising mix of goods. In-room products, artist collaborations, personal travel essentials and a curated selection of books, magazines and gifts can be purchased.
