Holiday Hangover Beauty Cures

By Tara Thompson Rasmus

If there ever were an official “hangover season,” well, we’re smack dab in the middle of it. Even if you’re no longer in the stage of life where you’re hitting some holiday soiree every night (let’s be honest, who really does that, anyway?) chances are that you’ll have one or two nights between now and January 1st where you imbibe more than you normally would.

While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having one too many champagne cocktails here and there, a hangover does require some skin care S.O.S. the next day. Between alcohol’s dehydrating effects and the amount of sugar in many drinks (yes, even in the driest champagne!), it’s not an overstatement to say that you will likely see the effects of your imbibing in the mirror the next day, in the form of redness, roughness, dry patches, or breakouts. Adding insult to injury? The fact that many of us (myself included!) are more likely to crash with a full face of makeup on after a night of revelry. Yikes.

After all of this abuse, your skin will certainly deserve some tender loving care the day after. So, to help you cleanse, tone, and exfoliate yourself back into tip-top shape, I’ve rounded up some hangover helpers that will speed up your complexion’s reparation process. Read ahead, and let me know if there are any key beauty hangover cures that you rely on!

Purifying Face Cleanser from Tula

First things first: whether you removed your makeup or not, one of the best ways to start your skin’s repair process and jumpstart circulation is with a cleanser. This detoxifying cleanser features probiotic technology, which aids in strengthening your skin’s ability to protect itself from further environmental damage.

Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder by Tatcha

Next up: exfoliation. This water-activated powder cleanser from Tatcha features rice enzyme powder, which gently yet thoroughly removes excess makeup, impurities, and dead skin cells.

Everyone Face Tone

To balance the skin and add an extra bit of hydration, this rosewater-based toner will revitalize both your complexion and your senses.

Organic Treatment Oil from Juice Beauty

Believe me, the day after drinking is not the time to mess around with some wimpy lotion. Instead, reach for a dynamically hydrating and nourishing oil like this USDA-certified organic oil from Juice Beauty, which is like a nutrient-packed smoothie for your face. (Sounds appealing, no?)

Rose Coco Lip Conditioner by Herbivore

Don’t forget your lips! The thin skin around your mouth is especially susceptible to the drying effects of alcohol, so make sure to treat your pout to a nourishing, all-natural balm like this pick from organic line Herbivore.

Shiseido Bio-Performance Glow Revival Eye Treatment

Same thing goes for your eye area: thinner skin = much more vulnerable to damage. Dab on this super powered treatment, designed to improve uneven skin tone, dark circles, wrinkles AND puffiness. Hangover? What hangover?

Belif First Aid Anti-Hangover Soothing Mask

Of course, if you’re not the kind of girl that revels in a multi-step skin routine (especially when post-inebriation), you’re still in luck. Slap on this mask before bed—take off your makeup with a wipe beforehand if sticking your head in the sink feels impossible—and wake up with skin that is cool, calm, and under control. Even if you feel anything but…

Antioxident Inner Beauty Boost from The Beauty Chef

Finally, to get your inner self back on par with your outer self, consider adding a beauty supplement, like this Antioxidant Boost from The Beauty Chef, to your routine. Add a shot to your morning smoothie on the regular to combat free-radical damage before it starts, and you’ll make it to January in one piece—I promise.
