Don’t you just love summer? Somewhere between President’s Day and Valentine’s Day I (Jen) begin anticipating its arrival, and by the time Memorial Day rolls around I am in full excitement mode. I love the warm weather, trips to the beach and fresh produce that’s all in season, but one of my favorite things about the season is how long the days are. Since the sun doesn’t set until close to 9, it leaves plenty of time in the evening for mid-week, post-work dates at some of my favorite places in town. Last week, it was a trip to the one-of-a-kind LACMA that inspired this bright summery outfit — keep reading for more beautiful photos by Denise Crew and tips on how to put this look together, plus product info!
Here is why this look is perfect for a day of business meetings and mixed work errands. First of all, I think the bright, punchy colors need no explanation. Don’t you just love them? (I think we are going to have to have a lesson in incorporating them into our fall wardrobe because the idea of packing them away in a month is just too much to bear!) We all know that bright colored jeans are all the rage right now, but in some offices or for certain events denim can still be a little too casual. Something a little more unexpected is the red trouser which is why I love these crisp cotton trousers by Aqua.
Also, while we all know the importance of the tailored blazer, I can’t stress enough how important it is to have a couple of non-blazer jackets in your repertoire. They are more versatile and feel more approachable and accessible to people that you are working or conversing with. This one by Gryphon is a total obsession. I just found out they are doing it in pink for fall and moved it to the top of my “Must-Have” list.
You have probably noticed by now that I am a huge fan of wedges, otherwise known in my book as the working-girl’s shoe. You can walk briskly from errand to errand without a care and won’t look as if you are about to topple over. These Tahari ones (similar to these) are some of my favorites as is the eclectic mix of jewelry I put together. I never leave home without a cocktail ring and these painted bangles were just crying out for some summertime fun.
Once I had checked off every last item on my to-do list this particular Wednesday, I headed down to LACMA and met Aaron for a quick bite in the cafe and a leisurely viewing of the Japanese photography exhibit, Fracture. The best part? I didn’t even have to change! That’s what we call a perfectly transitional look, ladies!
