Is anybody else psyched that it’s March? Jen here, and the warm weather and longer days always remind me that it’s time to take a vacation… but with Aaron traveling so much this year, I actually found myself daydreaming about a couple days at home together more than any other exotic locales. A couple weekends ago we decided to make it happen, and spent two days just lounging around the house, catching up on movies, reading new books, and trying out new restaurants (no cooking allowed!), and it was just what the doctor ordered!  Just because your job doesn’t allow for an actual spring break, doesn’t mean you can’t pick a weekend this month and have your very own staycation. Furthermore, just because you’re going to be staying in doesn’t mean you can’t wear a luxe look while lounging around the house…

I’ve actually been making an effort to step it up in the loungewear department — silky tunics and white cotton jeans are just as cozy as sweatpants, but look a lot cuter if you’re hanging out with the husband or if friends stop by unexpectedly. Whether it’s a staycation or an actual vacation, nothing says resort wear like graphic prints in bold colors.  I found this top recently at J. Crew, and these jeans by Current Elliott are my number one favorite summer staple. In fact, I wear them so consistently it’s probably about time I invested in another pair. I know some people get nervous about white pants, but there are very few things that a washing machine and a 1/2 cup of bleach can’t fix, and they are so fresh and chic in the spring and summer. Oh! and those red wedges I reluctantly kicked off are Prabal Gurung for Target.

Need some help disconnecting?  Here are a few things you can do to make sure you make the most of your days in, and start your work week off feeling relaxed and rejuvenated!
  • Treat yourself to some at-home spa treatments.  I went by our neighborhood drug store and stocked up on new nail polish colors, facial masks and moisturizers.  I’m sure you could find some ideas here to inspire more than a few at-home beauty ideas!
  • Nothing allows your mind to forget the week’s stresses like transporting it into someone else’s drama-filled life through a great book.  After reading this post, I Amazon-primed 5 new ones!
  • Take the opprtunity to feng shui your living space!  After putting it off for months and shopping all over town, we finally settled on the furniture we wanted for our bedroom sitting area and ordered it all from Hayneedle.  It came in that week, so we spent the weekend moving pieces around, living with it for a few hours, and then moving them again until it finally felt right.  Nothing like curling up with a new book in your new reading area!
Happy Staycation!
