Happy Friday! Ana here with your monthly does of Pulling it Off, and today I’m talking about everyone’s weekend favorite: the tee shirt. I wanted to take the classic tee out of it’s casual movie-on-the-couch role and give it a little bit of a dressier twist. And thanks to my gorgeous model Kerri and super talented photographer Kate Stafford, I got to do just that! Check out both looks we shot below and get ready to give some new life to your favorite old tees.

I loved this shoot because we got to go to one of my favorite Austin shops, Nannie Inez! The owner, Deeyn, has a great eye for home design and accessories and the shop is brimming with inspiration and her gorgeous finds from around the world. For this first look, we paired a midi skirt, which comes just below Kerri’s knee, with a wide belt and simple flat sandals. This is a perfect look for Saturday errands or even a Friday at work if your office does Casual Friday. I love a wide belt because it does a lot to accentuate the waist, which is important since we’re working with a loose tee and tucking it into a skirt — that creates a bit of extra bulk and we want to cinch it in.

I adored this second look on Kerri. We took a dressier silk wrap dress and put the tee shirt under it, then added a classic panama hat and those same flat sandals to find the right balance of casual and dressy. I love the sleeves of the tee just peeking out of the dress. I feel like that does just enough to shake this look up and make it a little more interesting.

If you feel really daring, try a tee shirt under a strapless dress with a big pair of cocktail earrings for your next night out!

Notes on buying tee shirts: If you dry yours in the machine, I recommend  buying one size up since it gives you a little room for shrinking and still lets you have that loose, casual feel which is essential for that “perfect tee” fit. Likewise, pay attention to length. I have a longer torso so longer tops look better on me. Take those proportions into account when you’re trying on tops: do you want a longer cut? Shorter cut? Identify what’s right for you before purchasing!

      Hi Melody!

Dress is by Maeve (a great line!) from an older season of Anthropologie, but I found one on eBay for ya. And FYI it runs bigger since it’s a wrap dress—I am typically a 4 or 6 and the 2 fits me just fine, so size down 🙂

I love that skirt! A tee + a cute skirt + belt + flats is actually my go-to summer look for the office. It’s easy, but it makes you look so put together! Where are the shoes from?
