In case you haven’t noticed, I’m really feeling the boy-meets-girl vibe for fall and winter this year. Last month we took a look at the boyfriend sweater, but this month I wanted to dress up the trend with a feminine take on the classic tuxedo. I adore this playful, unexpected style for cocktail parties and dressy nights out, and luckily one of my favorite shops, Madewell, is stocking everything you need this year to pull it off. My friend Anna made the perfect model with her willowy frame and gorgeous long hair, and Wynn Myers captured the old Hollywood charm of this ensemble perfectly from behind the lens. So kick up your glittery heels and give your LBD a rest this party season… it’s time for the feminine tux!

For a fresh update on this tried and true outfit, we paired Madewell’s Collarless Tux Shirt (and the Silk Tux Shirt would also work beautifully) with their Modern Blazer, a piece I fell in love with for its figure-flattering stretch and classic shape. Instead of suit pants, I chose the  Skinny Skinny Ponte Pants which give the look an Audrey Hepburn-esque femininity; I can imagine Holly Golightly wearing this as a New Year’s ensemble, with her tiara of course!

I love Madewell for their spin on classic tomboy shapes and styles; this tux shirt would be perfect with jeans and flats, and this blazer is the ideal piece for work meetings but still cute enough for date night. A must-have for every gal’s closet!

We topped off the look with some sparkly gold heels from my own closet (these and these would be perfect, too!) and some show-stopper earrings from J.Crew. A sparkly headband or a big bow, if you wear a collared tux shirt, would also be fun additions.

Moment of Truth: Would you ever dare to pull off an alternative party ensemble like this one?
