Hi friends! Ana here, and I’m really excited to be kicking off a new series that we’ve been dreaming about and planning for months: Pulling it Off. Each month, we’ll look at a trend that’s a little tricky to style, but totally rewarding when you get it right. I’ll show you how to put it together and all the pieces you need to do so. Most of all, I’m thrilled to introduce some of my favorite places and girls in Austin with this column — every look will feature a new gal and a new spot in my hometown that I’m delighted to share with you.
First up: “The Cape Coat” on yours truly.
The peaceful rose gardens at Zilker Botanical Gardens felt like the perfect spot to shoot this English-countryside feeling cape. Chelsea did such a great job of capturing the femininity and fun that a playful piece like this can create. Keep that in mind when you’re wearing outerwear that doesn’t take itself too seriously—it’s supposed to be fun! So have fun with it.
Inspired by a cape silhouette but slightly more sturdy, the cape coat is perfect for late winter—the coldest time of year. Because these pieces are on the bulkier side, I suggest slim cut pants or leggings (just nothing flared) to complement the weight on top. And while flats would work, I love a nice tall boot with this shape—it lends a bit of balance to the heaviness of the coat and goes with the whole Little Red Riding Hood vibe.
Below are some pieces to help you pull together this look on your own. And I’d love to know: what tricky-to-wear pieces would you like to see in this column? Dying to try denim on denim? Not sure how to wear your printed maxi dress? I’m here to help!
