If you’d asked me a month ago what the interiors of my dream home looked like, I’d have waxed poetic about crisp white walls, gorgeous cream furniture and earthy neutral textiles. That said, imagine my surprise this week when I stumbled upon a home that’s almost exactly the opposite of that, and was knocked right off my feet. Today I’m singing quite a different tune — this dark and moody living space and kitchen designed by Jessica Helgerson is officially my new fantasy. Love finds you when you least expect it, right? I’m now on a total dark-interiors kick… click through to see ten of my favorites, and I’d love to know: Are you white all the way, or do you always come back to black?

I love this collection! I currently have a dining room full of paint samples in many dark and black tones. I’m normally a very white and windowy gal but after painting an entire corner in a room in our house with chalkboard paint, (and loving it!) I’ve realized that I shouldn’t fight the coziness of our dark, north, facing living room and to instead embrace it. At this point our dining room walls look more Rothko than glamourous but, I have a vision and you’ve helped with the push, too. Sometimes, I think if a room is already dark, it’s best to embrace that. Beautiful photos — and I am also going consider combining deep blue — nice…

Perfect timing! And yes, I love the notion of embracing what would traditionally be thought of as “cons” in your home… best of luck with your designs!

I too was a huge fan of the all white interiors but man oh man those dark and moody ones can be so awesome when they are done right! I’m with you on this one!

Gorgeous! Our rehearsal dinner was held at August, but it wasn’t August back them. In April we filled the place with cherry blossoms. I miss New York. We’re going back for the Cabaret revival!!

This is exactly how I felt when my dreams of a light, bright bistro kitchen were eclipsed by Athena Calderone’s enticing gray kitchen, as featured in Cristina’s late July post! Love the interiors you featured today, Chanel. Give me deep gray walls and a giant mineral sample any day! Gorgeous!

If I ever open a restaurant in my next life, it’s looking like #8! Stunning!

I love this line up and I just happen to be creating a little “dark and moody” room of my own. I’ve just shared your round up with my readers and wish you a happy weekend of continued inspiration! http://www.willowday.com/2013/10/happy-friday.html#more
