Decorating a home with your significant other can be…a challenge. I’ve seen the conflict arise time and time again when one or both parties have strong design opinions and they wind up with a space that neither can fully appreciate. Don’t get me wrong, I fully believe it’s possible (and often times better) to mix disparate styles! But, sometimes it can be fun to daydream about decorating with a pink carpet, patterned wallpaper, and all the ornamental pillows your heart desires. Keep reading to bring this fun, feminine look home.

lamp — The lighting in this room reminds me of the set of Mad Men, in the very best way.

black & white print & frame — To me the dapper, suited gentleman is the masculine force that’s keeping this bedroom from venturing into pink feather boa territory. I’ve always wanted to frame this photo of Steve McQueen, isn’t he fly?

geode knob — If you’re currently navigating the challenges of decorating with a partner, then pretty details like these can be a small wins that you both agree to.

fur pillowzebra pillow & woven pillow — Ornamental pillows have historically been a point of contention between males and females, and you definitely can’t sleep on any of these (believe me, I own the little zebra and I’ve tried).

bench — This versatile piece can go at the end of the bed, in an entryway, and can serve as extra seating when you have guests. Place a small tray and a pile of books on it and you’ve even got a side table.

Good point Julia, if you take away the pink pillow it really is very versatile and neutral.

so glad women of your generation appreciate Steve McQueen 🙂 I’m not sure my husband would let me put his photo in the bedroom, but i think it would be a classy addition to our current decor! love the feminine-but-not-fussy look you created.

Amazing! Love how you balanced out the pink with unexpected masculine subject matter in the black and white photos. So chic.
