On My Nightstand

Can’t believe another month has come and gone, and it’s already time for a fresh crop of reading material! Now that I’m in my third trimester, I’m definitely squeezing in some last-minute baby & parenting books (current read is Happiest Baby on the Block) but also mixing in fun non-baby-related material so I don’t go crazy. Gotta keep it in balance, you know? By the way, that Sophie Dahl cookbook from last month’s roundup is my new go-to; I’ve been making everything from the summer section, especially the berry-filled desserts! Take a peek at what else is currently on my nightstand, and leave a comment to let me know what you’re currently reading (or any recent book you highly recommend!

{1} Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother is this month’s pick for the book club I’m in with my mom, aunt and cousins. Author Amy Chua is brutally honest and unapologetic about her extreme parenting techniques…and it’s definitely going to spark some healthy debate about how far is too far when it comes to discipline.

{2} I can’t wait to read the amazing story behind the birth of Gilt Groupe in By Invitation Only. Alexis Maybank and Alexandra Wilkis share their story of the determination and vision it took to create a billion dollar business and change the way people shop. I’m always fascinated by female entrepreneur success stories…and these women are the reigning queens.

{3} You guys know that I love summer grilling, and The Gardener & the Grill is the perfect companion for those of us who love eating seasonally and preparing our farmer’s market bounty as simply as possible. This one could quite possibly become a new classic at our house.

{4} I haven’t been able to resist scooping up a few of the gorgeously-illustrated kids books out there, and I Had a Favorite Dress is definitely one of the cutest I’ve seen. It’s the story of a dress that goes through several DIY transformations… and the fun that comes from flexing a little creativity and flexibility!
