We’re so excited to be featuring the wonderful work of our friends Kerri Keaton Hughey and her uber talented architect husband Ed Hughey, who recently launched the nutrition-focused nonprofit The Wellgro Co. in Austin. We first got to know Kerri while collaborating with her and the BHLDN team on some styling work (remember this lovely shoot?), so we were excited to learn more about Kerri’s other passion: this fantastic initiative that works to put real food back in local schools. Awesome, right? Don’t want to give too much away since Kerri is here today with all the details of the Wellgro Co.’s mission and snapshots from the brimming-with-inspiration launch party they just hosted at Contigo. From Kerri:

The Wellgro Co. is a social enterprise focused on putting REAL food in schools through farm-to-cafeteria initiatives, school gardens, and food education programs.  Our mission is to teach kids in the US about real food… our vision is to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic in our country.  The Wellgro Co. started because we were motivated to make a difference in the world, and we believe that we can do anything we put our minds to!  The development and design of The Wellgro Co. was important to us, as we aimed to build a brand that inspired others to get involved and do a little good.  Our product campaigns will raise funds that are donated to amazing organizations who are hands on in school systems changing the way kids eat, and learn about food.

We were selected to be Ambassadors for Jamie Oliver’s inaugural Food Revolution Day, held on May 19th.  As a celebration of REAL food and a fundraiser for the Jamie Oliver Foundation, The Wellgro Co. hosted a REAL FOOD SOCIAL at Contigo, one of our favorite local restaurants.  The mix and mingle event was a huge success!  We brought together great food, great people, and a great cause.  This event raised enough money to provide forty-four classrooms with food education.

Visit our website and join our GIVE GAVE GIVEN tee shirt campaign by making a purchase!  Money raised through our tee shirt campaign will help put REAL food into the bellies of today’s youth and the minds of tomorrow’s leaders!

Visit our journal to read about our lifestyle, food, and recreation and stay up to date on future events we are planning…. believe me, it’s going to be good!
