Last month I got a dream invitation from HomeMint – the new members-only home collection from Justin Timberlake and interior designer Estee Stanley. Host a summertime dinner party at my house, using my favorite pieces from HomeMint’s latest collections. Um… yes please! I immediately set my sights on a set of gorgeous dishes from the Canvas collaboration, and used their exotic blue and white pattern as the jumping off point for a Mediterranean-style al fresco fête. Photographer Buff Strickland captured each detail so beautifully… Click through the slides to see how it all came together!
My design started with a low-slung Moroccan-style table that would encourage plenty of lounging late into the evening. (get the instructions for creating your own low table.) I covered it simply with a breezy white linen that I folded to form a wide runner, creating a clean canvas for the dishes’ bright pops of color.
It’s June in Austin, which means it’s HOT out. I greeted guests at the door with sparkling lemon water, enhanced with fresh blueberries and mint for flavor and brilliant color.
The dishes that started it all: gorgeous Tarascon Dinnerware – part of HomeMint’s collaboration with Canvas. Each piece in the collection is made under fair trade and green principles with designs that represent simple, sustainable style. And the deep blue shade instantly takes me away to the azure waters of the Mediterranean.
A lounge-y dinner party requires loads of pretty pillows, and HomeMint stocks a crave-worthy collection. The various patterns mix and match so well together for a completely custom look. I chose the summery Montauk Blue Stripes pillows, and paired with the slightly more exotic Jacobean Print pillows for splash of sunny orange. Pile on top of a natural sisal rug and – presto! Instant outdoor living room.
My friend Ash from The Byrd Collective designed the gorgeous centerpieces with a mix of white peonies, ranunculus and carnations. Don’t those transparent blue vessels look as though they were pulled straight from a mermaid’s private collection?
Shimmering pieces of natural crystal weigh down each calligraphied place card in the Tarascon bowls, creating an organic-chic setting for each guest.
Mediterranean cuisine is all about simple, fresh flavors using the very best ingredients. A fresh fruit platter is party-worthy when it incorporates produce as colorful as papayas, figs and honeydew melon at the height of their season. I arranged on top of a few fresh lemon leaves that imparted an intoxicating citrus-y perfume.
My girl friends arrived in summer’s finest – easy breezy dresses in beachy shades. We caught up over cocktails before the sun went down… chilled flutes of prosecco spiked with mint simple syrup and fresh blueberries.
A traditional Greek meze, made up of small flavorful sharing plates, is intended to complement the taste of the wine and provide a backdrop for a social experience. Love that concept, so I served little bowls of roasted peppers, olives, hummus, fresh feta and pita bread to encourage lots of snacking and passing around the table.
I served piles of warm pita bread in the Galapagos Deep Banded Bowls, which are incredibly versatile vessels that I also use for storing lemons in the kitchen and sponges in the bathroom. Hand-woven from artisans in mountains of southern Mexico, each stylish banded bowl is one-of-a-kind.
