Jenn here, still soaking up one of my favorite times of year. The weather was decidedly cooler in Austin today, and it felt like the whole town was enjoying being outside. Earlier this week I picked up the August issue of Food & Wine magazine, and have been waiting to share this lovely story they ran about actor Bill Pullman’s orchard in California. He and his wife host what they like to call “old-fashioned threshing parties” with friends and family. What better way to enjoy the end of summer than to host an outdoor canning party? Don’t these photos make it look like fun? Bill’s orchard is gorgeous, but what’s most inspiring is that he started it himself 20 years ago. He now has over 40 different species of fruits and berries growing in his backyard. Just think: to someday unwind with your children and grandchildren under the shade of old pecan and fruit trees… now that inspires me to start planting!
