It’s the eternal Thanksgiving debate at our house: try out a “new twist” on the traditional desserts (me), or stick with the classics (pretty much everyone else). The men in our family look forward to my mom’s perfect pecan tart all year long, and my sister and Phoebe are major pumpkin pie girls. Though I may get seduced by the sexier caramel layer cakes and pumpkin tiramisu parfaits spotted in my favorite food mags, I’ve got to admit that at the end of the day, it’s hard to beat a wedge of homemade pie with a dollop of whipped cream and cup of coffee. Luckily, within this roundup of our favorite fall pies, there’s something for both the traditionalists and adventurers among us…

I’d say fall into the traditional desserts camp, but these pies have me rethinking my old favorites.
That apple galette and the pumpkin meringue may find their way to my Thanksgiving table if I can find a way to break it to the purists in my family who demand pecan and pumpkin pies every year!

Such great recipes! I love putting a twist on the traditional. This year I’m doing personal sweet potato pies – I just did a short post about them!
