Do any of you get unjustifiably excited over anything illustrated? I’ve always had an undying affinity for doodle-style hand drawings (see the page margins of my notebooks spanning from grades 6 to 12 for reference), so when author Orr Shtuhl and artist Elizabeth Graeber combined my long-time love of illustration with my modern-day love of creative cocktails, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. In the past, I’ve been the type of drinker who finds one favorite libation and sticks with it. But An Illustrated Guide to Cocktails has me inspired to get my mixology on, starting with this crisp Fresh Paloma. Classic, refreshing and easy to whip up in a flash, I hereby deem it my official cocktail of Summer 2013! Big thanks to Carrie for snapping these gorgeous photos, and keep reading for the recipe…

This sounds like a perfect cocktail. I just bought some grapefruits to add to healthy fresh juices.. but I’m sure they’d be much happier in some tequila.

I’m also a huge fan of illustration and grapefruit cocktails! Somehow I feel like the health benefits of the grapefruit offset the alcohol consumption 🙂

Oh, and I should have mentioned that it’s also hilarious! I don’t know that I’ve ever said this about a cocktail book, but it’s a real page turner!

This recipe looks great similar to my favorite margarita recipe that calls for grapefruit and lime juice. I think it’s an Ina Garten, so yummy!

Tried this yesterday. Didn’t have any club soda so topped it off with ice-cold champagne. Ungodly delicious! Definitely my summer drink.

Ah! That sounds amazing… Though I’m not surprised, champagne + anything always seems to work out 🙂
