When it comes to the perfect summer day, it’s hard to beat the calm and relaxation of a day at the beach…am I right?  Now that summer is in full swing, I’m constantly looking for a reason to bury my toes in the sandy shore, and this little afternoon at Zuma Beach was just what the doctor ordered after a few non-stop work weeks. Whether I’m sneaking away for just a couple of hours or on an actual vacation, I love a beach look that can transition smoothly from a lounge chair to shopping, a local bar, or exploring other parts of a city. For that reason I tend to stay away from the cut-off shorts and tank top beach look.

I bought this chambray dress before going to Australia — it went from Sydney Harbor to Bondi Beach to margaritas at a nearby spot without ever once feeling out of place!  I have been drooling over this Coach x Saint James collection since it first started coming out in editorials this spring.  It seemed like the perfect bag for our upcoming summer trip to St. Thomas… and every other summer day leading up to it!

I picked up these striped espadrilles at Marshalls last week–these and these are similar.

Now that I have shared my favorite beach combo, I would love to know what your’s is!  Do you pack a change of clothes or try to wear transitional pieces?
