If you’ve been following along this week, you’ve probably picked up on the fact that tomorrow marks one of our favorite days of the year: Cinco de Mayo! And what better way to celebrate Mexican culture than with a Frida Kahlo inspired fiesta? Ladies and gentlemen, whip out your brow filler and stir up a pitcher of your favorite sangria for a Saturday afternoon that’s overflowing with food and fun. And keep reading for a few party ideas that are sure to turn the festivity up a few colorful notches…

The Drink: Sangrias and Corona’s are always a safe bet, but why stop there? The Paloma is a refreshing tequila drink made with grapefruit juice and a splash of soda for bubbles. And if you’re wanting to fancy up your frozen margarita, drop some fresh mint or a splash of pineapple juice into the blender for a flavor that’s simply delicioso!

The Food: Whether you’re hosting a seated meal or a casual cocktail hour, guacamole, salsa and crisp tortilla chips are a must-have. And if you’ll be serving dinner, nothing beats enchiladas verdes with sour cream or freshly grilled fajitas with all the fixin’s.

The Entertainment: Who doesn’t love any excuse to bring out a piñata? Find a fun blindfold and relive your youth with a colorful creation full of whatever candies and goodies you choose.

And Why Not…

  • Set up a decorate-your-own sombrero station, complete with plain straw sombreros, fringe, paint and ribbon
  • Have a tequila tasting with three or four of your favorite brands
  • Invite guests to channel their inner artists with watercolor postcards… Frida would approve
