It’s anything but basic.

Have a build-your-own avocado toast party!

You guys know that I’m all about a party menu where guests do most of the work. From a bagel brunch bar to an Instagram-worthy flatbread party, this type of interactive meal makes things easy on the host and gives guests a fun activity that gets them chatting with each other. It felt like a no-brainer to put a DIY spin on our favorite food of all time, and since we don’t know anyone who doesn’t love a good avo-on-bread combination, we set up an avocado toast bar with all kinds of fancy toppings at the Sunday Funday we hosted a few weekends ago.

Read on for our tips on setting up a build-your-own avocado toast station with all the unexpected toppings that’ll make yours anything but basic.

1. Choose your favorite toppings.

Think outside the box! It’s all about an inventive mash-up of textures and flavors. For our spread, we used avocado, thinly sliced watermelon radishes (delicious on almost anything) and beets, chickpeas, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, sprouts and fresh lime juice.

Here are some other creative combos!

–Spinach, hard boiled egg, sriracha

–Radishes, pea shoots, lemon

–Bacon, dried rosemary

–Sliced pears, gorgonzola, toasted walnuts

2. Prep your ingredients.

Toast the bread with a little olive oil and salt, chop your fruits and veggies. You can either smear on the avocado and serve immediately, or keep it in a bowl for everyone to spread their own (don’t forget the lime juice to prevent the avo mash from turning brown!)

3. Gather your serveware.

Setting up the perfect “station” for creating your DIY avo-toasts is half the fun! Find a large bowl or platter to lay out all of those yummy, already-prepped ingredients that are easy to grab and grub. We used this fun rattan serving tray to go with our summertime vibe.

4. Eat up!

Avocado toast is a blank canvas for all kinds of color and nutrition, so get creative and taste the rainbow.
