Do y’all have your Thanksgiving menus finalized yet? Mine is getting there, though I’m not hitting up the grocery until tomorrow morning (I know, I know, I might be crazy.) Today’s recipe kicks off a fun series that will go from now ’til December 25th: 12 Tastes of Christmas will feature holiday entertaining recipes created just for you by some of our favorite food bloggers on the planet (can’t wait to unveil the lineup!!) Thought I’d start things off with a recipe that’s just as fitting for Thanksgiving festivities, and is simple enough to add to the mix at the last minute. Trays of this Ginger-Spiced Cider are such a heartwarming way to greet guests at the door. Serve it as-is for little ones, or spiked for adults…either way, one whiff of this cider simmering on the stove, and major holiday cheer will ensue. Keep reading for the recipe:

Ginger-Spiced Cider

Ingredients:

  • 12 cups apple cider
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • Peel from 1 orange, cut into strips
  • 1 tablespoon (packed) brown sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 2 small pieces of peeled fresh ginger
  • 1 1/2 cups brandy (only if you want to give it a kick!)
Instructions:
Mix first 7 ingredients in large saucepan. Bring to boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer mixture 30 minutes to blend flavors. Strain cider into mugs, and serve with a dash of brandy, if desired.
