Colorful Homes In Cartagena With Balconies Adorned With Lush Pink Flowered Vines And Ferns

This is the first in our brand new “Passport to” series, where one of our favorite creative people invites us along on a visual tour of a fascinating destination. Rather than travel guides, these posts are meant to be mental escapes — a rare opportunity to let your mind drift far from home and allow yourself be swept up in the magic of an exotic locale. So join us as we take this first trip to Cartagena, Colombia, with Annabel and Dorothée, the due behind Belathée Photography. Take it away, ladies!

We really enjoyed that the city is a mix of historic and colorful facades and beautiful people. The quiet side streets invite for strolls, but be sure to bring a map: the city, especially inside the wall, is a bit of a maze. Fruit vendors are setting up around every corner and everyday life seems to happen right on the street, from restaurants to car repair shops, everything happens out in the open. It’s a great place to soak in sun and culture, especially getting away in the winter months as the weather is pretty reliable. It was our first time to South America and it makes us want to come back for more. We were particularly lucky to be hosted by a local family that was proud to share great insider tips with us.

Must-visit Cartagena spots: La Cevicheria for the best ceviche // favorite hotel is Casa San Agustin.
