Happy almost-fall, readers! This week I’m excited to talk about my favorite fall trend for 2013: leather skirts (or vegan leather, as we used). For this month’s Pulling it Off, I’m showing you two darling, different ways to work one of these versatile pieces into your fall wardrobe, and I promise it will become a new staple. A special thanks to Anthropologie for letting me take a gander at all of their gorgeous new fall offerings and use a few of my favorites in this shoot! Swoon-worthy fall frocks and your next favorite wardrobe workhorse below.
I wanted our first look to feel very Freshman Orientation: wide-eyed and eager to learn! This adorable cut-out [vegan] leather skirt worked perfectly and gave our precious model Clare a really sweet silhouette. I paired it with this black daisy blouse, which I’m a little bit obsessed with — since this shoot it has soared to the tippy top of my fall wishlist. It’s kind of like the perfect, polished update on Cher Horowitz, don’t you think?
When buying leather, it’s important to consider quality and color so we stay on the right side of stylish and don’t slide into tacky. Stick with neutrals (black, brown, nude, navy, etc.) and get the best quality that you can afford. Both of the skirts in this post are very well priced for their quality; save up and buy one like these that will last you season after season!
This creamy cardigan is the perfect fall weather companion for the changing temperatures, and I love the sparkle that kicks it up a notch from your typical cover up.
For our second look, I wanted something completely different: a sharp and sleek Grad School foil to our flowery Freshman girl. The silhouette of this look is modern, interesting and all grown-up. I love the color of this green of this skirt (also vegan leather) and the pull-on styling it offers. It looks fantastic with a sweater and heels and because of it’s slender shape, you can get away with a fun shape on top like we did.
I’d love to know which look you like best and if you’ll be sporting a leather skirt this fall!
Get the looks!

LOOK 2: Black sweater (more colors) | Pencil Skirt (also in black)

I love the second look. So sleek and modern, perfect to showcase this season. I’m so glad you chose to model vegan leather- three cheers for that! The color is stunning too.
Cheers!

I’m so overwhelmed when it comes to leather… i think there’s a fine line between really cute and “OH MY!” thanks for these looks I think i’ll give them a shot!!!
Totally understand! It’s a fine line for sure. I think a feminine skirt is a great place to start:) I’m sure you’d be darling in one of these!
thanks Ana! i’ll give it a shot!
I think having a leather jacket and leather skirt is a great indulgence for any wardrobe. It should be something classic and simple that can withstand the test of time. Black or brown is always best. I love that pencil skirt!

I agree, Quyen. I’ve been wanting to invest in a brown leather jacket for years now. It’s about time I did!
The first skirt is so dainty and girly!

Love the first look! I’ve always written off leather skirts for myself, but the cute cut-out A-line version, I could do!
you could totally pull it off linds 😉
AH! I’ve been lusting after that nude Anthro skirt and this might have tipped me over the edge! Such a classy version of the leather skirt… soft, girly AND a statement piece- count me in 🙂
I think you need it:) treat yourself, girl!
The vegan option to a leather skirt would help justify the price. I could picture myself wearing the second one! It looks classy and timeless.
