This Dry Shampoo Is My Secret To Second Day Hair

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Drybar. All opinions are 100% mine.

How often would you say you “have” to wash your hair? According to our in-office poll, typical answers vary quite a bit, from an astounding seven days (Chanel) to four (Jenn) to my measly two day limit — but the common denominator is that we all try to stretch the time between washes as far as possible without feeling like a slob. Enter: dry shampoos! We’ve waxed poetic on our love for them before, and their magical ability to transform our greasy locks into something that feels tousled, voluminous, and with that perfectly gritty off-duty vibe. Well, our obsession just reached new heights when we got our hands on Drybar’s new Detox Whipped Dry Shampoo Foam, and I thought I’d share my new and improved second-day hair routine. Keep scrolling for the step-by-step, and I’d love to hear any of your secrets for making that blowout last!

Alright, for those of you who need a dry shampoo primer (how do you live), it’s what gives hair that extra grip that will keep it from getting flat or greasy during the day. This new foam formula is so good for my fine hair since it won’t weight it down, resulting in major va-va-volume.

My second-day hair actually starts the night before. I flip my head upside down, put it into a very high ponytail on top of my head, then twist the ponytail around itself to create a messy bun, which I secure with a bobby pin or two. In the morning, I take it out, and already have the beginnings of tousled, wavy texture.

When I’m ready to pump it up, I just shake this can super well (important) and dispense a little into my palm.

Massage gently into dry hair at the roots. It felt a little wet (and weird) at first, but as I rubbed it in, the formula magically dried completely. Make sure to apply above the ears, massaging upward toward the crown. Finally, work it in until the foam disappears, then give it a good shake for maximum body.

The final step? I use a 1-inch curling iron to create some bend in my hair. Remember, we want this look to feel effortless and imprecise, so pick out random pieces and wrap them around the barrel of the curling iron, just in the middle. It’s important to leave the roots and the ends straight to get that beachy girl vibe.

And…. we’ve got instant, sexy model-off-duty bedhead, no shower required!

The best thing about a good dry shampoo is that it lets us live life a little more spontaneously. Maybe we had too much fun last night and slept in, leaving little time for a hair wash and dry in the morning. And then maybe we decide to go straight from work to meet a friend for cocktails, and don’t want to deal with freshening up. Detox Whipped Dry Shampoo Foam to the rescue!
