Hi friends! Ana here from Grown-up Shoes, excited to introduce my new monthly column, where I’ll be bringing you a party idea inspired by one of my favorite ladies of literature, art, film or real life. From cocktails to canapés, I hope these ideas will get you thinking about the fun you can have hosting your own seasonal soirees. So without further ado, I thought a Holly Golightly-inspired Valentine’s bash would be the perfect party to kick off our series… so let’s get started!

I love the challenge of reimagining the queen of the LBD into the holiday of hearts. To make Valentine’s feel a little more cool, I traded in doilies and candy hearts for luxurious details with a vintage feel. Without compromising Holly’s glamour (we’re still wearing Oscar de la Renta, after all), I dreamed up a grown-up girly bash, complete with an update on her trademark tiara. With simple snacks and fun games, this is a party you could put together in a flash.

The Drink: Whenever possible, I make punch for parties… it’s super simple, and saves you from mixing cocktails all night. Pink, sparkly and totally delicious, this Pomegranate Champagne Punch is perfect for the occasion. Serve it in a vintage punch bowl alongside a chilled bottle of Veuve, with matching glassware for an extra special touch.

The Food: Though it’s ambitious, I love the romance of a good chocolate soufflé like this one, and since they’re baked individually, they’d be perfect for entertaining. Otherwise, stick with simple snacks… you just can’t beat a toasted baguette with goat cheese and honey, or fresh fruit with cheese and fresh local bread!

The Entertainment: I adore an old-fashioned game night. Rummy, blackjack and go fish are favorites that everyone knows or are easy to learn. For music, make sure Moon River plays at least once! Pepper the playlist with classics like Elvis and The Platters, and new favorites like Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.

And Why Not…

Thanks so much for reading, and I’d love to hear your suggestions for future posts. Tell me about your favorite heroines and the parties you’d imagine they’d throw!
